'Wake Me Up' #1 Pop, Royals #1 HAC
Quote:
Avicii notches his first No. 1 on Pop Songs, as "Wake Me Up!" rises 3-1. The Swedish DJ had previously peaked at No. 33 last year with "Levels" and No. 34 in May with "I Could Be the One" (credited to Avicii vs. Nicky Romero).
Notably, "Levels" had brought Avicii's work to the summit in an uncredited role: it's sampled in Flo Rida's "Good Feeling," which topped the Feb. 18, 2012, tally. (That song also features the late Etta James with an unbilled vocal; meanwhile, Aloe Blacc is not credited for his vocal on "Wake.")
Avicii becomes the second core EDM act credited as a lead act on a Mainstream Top 40 No. 1: David Guetta reigned with "Without You" (featuring Usher) the week of Dec. 3, 2011. (Guetta also co-wrote and -produced the Black Eyed Peas' 2009 seven-week No. 1 "I Gotta Feeling.")
(EDM king Calvin Harris also scored a No. 1 on Mainstream Top 40, as the featured act on Rihanna's "Diamonds." )

'ROYALS' RULES: Although it cedes the Pop Songs to Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" after a week at No. 1, Lorde's "Royals" lifts 2-1 on Adult Pop Songs.
And, now the obligatory mention of Lorde's age: with the New Zealand singer/songwriter turning 17 on Nov. 7, she's the youngest artist to reach No. 1 on Adult Pop Songs. She passes Avril Lavigne, who was 17 years, nine months and three weeks old when "Complicated" crowned the Aug. 3, 2002, chart.
