Owl City member charged w/ trying to lure girl onto tour bus
Quote:
An Atlantic County jury has indicted a musician and touring member of the band Owl City for allegedly trying to lure a 14-year-old girl onto the band’s tour bus for sex in 2013.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said Daniel P. Jorgensen, 30, of Minneapolis, was also indicted for alleged criminal sexual contact with the girl on the Atlantic City beach.
Jorgensen spoke with the girl online and by phone, encouraging her to come to Atlantic City, where he was working as a musician on Aug. 29, 2013, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
Owl City, known for the song “Fireflies,” played at the House of Blues at the former Showboat Casino Hotel that day.
Owl City’s management company confirmed that Jorgensen was fired in December 2013 after the allegations were made.
“As of this weekend, we have terminated Daniel Jorgensen’s employment and all involvement as a touring member of Owl City,” Steve Bursky, Owl City's manager, said in a post on a fan site. “Please understand that this business decision does not implicate Daniel in the judicial system, but was both necessary and appropriate given the allegations that have surfaced over the last handful of days.”
Jorgensen was indicted Tuesday on charges of second-degree attempting to lure or entice a child and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.
A conviction on a second-degree crime can carry a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
The victim’s name is being withheld.
Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Bernard E. DeLury set bail at $100,000 cash or bond.
