This is where I stop understanding the singles calculations. AKB48 sold 1,091,000 $12 singles and yet their number only registers 630,000? Korean sales go down because their songs are so cheap, but shouldn't Japan's stay the same since they're so freakin expensive?
And $12 is the cheapest version, and doesn't include the PC/cell phone singles. They probably should've been number 1 but, it's mediatraffic, nothing major.

Well it's a point system. We don't know the formula they use.

Similar to the US-Billboard chart the global Track Chart based on a combination of sales and airplay. At the moment the ratio is 75% (sales) to 25% (airplay). The chart includes singles sales and paid-download stats from the:
USA (Billboard Digital Songs),
Japan (Oricon Single Chart),
United Kingdom (Official Charts Company Top 100),
Germany (Media Control Single Chart),
France (ChartsInFrance Top Singles & Titres),
South Korea (Gaon Digital Chart),
Canada (Billboard Canadian Hot 100),
Australia (ARIA Singles Top 50),
Italy (FIMI Top Digital Download),
Spain (Promusicae Top 50 Canciones),
Netherlands (Mega Single Top 100),
Belgium (Ultratop Singles),
Norway (VG Lista Topp 20 LĀT),
Sweden (Sverige Topplistan, Veckans Singellista),
Finland (Suomen Virallinen Lista, Singlet),
Denmark (Hitlisterne Track Top 40),
Austria (Media Control, ORF Singlecharts),
Switzerland (Media Control Singles Top 75),
Ireland (IRMA Top 100 Singles),
New Zealand (NZ Music Charts, Singles),
and the iTunes-charts from the countries without an official hitlist.
Furthermore the official national airplay charts from the USA, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, and New Zealand. Makes sense, no Japanese airplay data or digital sales to work with.
Well, they still have 3 no. 1 albums and the highest week points.

The price has nothing to do with those numbers. They use "points" which is a mix between sales and airplay.

But as mentioned in their calculations, AKB48 only has one point of reference, while the others have 2 and 3, which explained the confusion.

This is an example of why Mediatraffic isn't fully reliable in my opinion; sure the Japanese music market is smaller than the US, for example, but if they're going to factor the size of the market into the calculations they should factor price into them as well. In that case, given that Japan is the biggest or second biggest market each year, AKB48 would clearly win.

A chart is to measure popularity, not the money the song has earned

Then why factor in the size of the music market? Why not base it on raw data? Wouldn't that be more accurate?
And why can't it factor in monetary aspects? Surely a million sales of a $12 single shows more consumer demand than maybe 500k globally of a $1.29 track. Cost can factor into popularity just fine.
