One Direction has two of the year’s top five albums. Up All Night is #3 with sales of 1,616,000. Take Me Home is #5 with sales of 1,340,000. The British/Irish boy band is the first act to place two albums in the year-end top five in the Nielsen SoundScan era.

I think Come On Over is the best selling album that was released in 1997 but most of it's numbers come from 1998 to 2000.

You have to make a cut off somewhere

That link is about sales within a single year only, the thread is about total sales.
For example, The Fame wasn't the 2nd best-selling albums in 2008, but it's the 2nd best-selling albums from all albums released in 2008

Yes, BOMT and Oops! were both huge in the US no matter how much you want to cut them out of your made-up definition of dominance. Cute attempt at making Gaga look big though!

Nobody needs to make Gaga look big. She's sold almost 30M albums, over 100M singles and grossed half a billion in tours. She's also among the most awarded artists ever.
All that in 7 years. Are her contemporaries doing these? Only Taylor tbh.
Sit.

BOMT sold more than Creed if we count the BMG Music Clubs sales.
