He probably would have done it earlier had the stuff with Taylor Swift not happened. Remember, he said he was going to take a break and he did, but now it's time for him to get back into the spotlight. I think this video is his way of doing that.

I think he felt it best not to take away from the storyline and just focus on the girl and the shadows. He may have been one of the shadows, but I don't think so. With the bad press surrounding him regarding the Taylor Swift outburst I think he wanted to tread lightly and ease his way back in, and I think he's done just that.
