Know-to-Know
He'd prefer just to be known as Dark_Lorde and not revealing his real name. He lives in Australia, Sydney (but it depends on his job). He works in Marketing. He clarifies that "Marketing" is a braod term. He says exactly " I guess you could say that I work in the psychology in different demographics. " At this stage Dark Lorde is single (
) but that's "sort of recent", as he tells me. His hobbies are water skiing, reading, running, going out clubbing, gaming, traveling. When I asked him about his personality he responded, "It's kind of geeky". D_L loves staying at home doing nothing and playing video games in his free time but then when he's in the mood he also loves going out.
A: Why did you choose 'Dark_Lorde' as your nickname? Does this symbolize something or..?
D_L: I was thinking of something that would be a little different. I really love lorde and had plans to see her live and when I thought of her name "lorde" I also thought of The Dark Lord (as I was reading harry Potter at the time) so that's how my name was born
A(lex): You're known as the 'essay guy'. Really, why all these 'essays'? Are you trying to be more specific, to give people understand what you are saying more...are essays your way to convince people?
D(ark)_L(orde): I didn't set out to be known as the "essay guy" There's no specific reason for it. It's just who I am, it's how I am in real life. Convincing people is not something I care about. I like to answer any question or reply to a thread which is much detail and knowledge as possible, that often takes more than a sentence to put across. I also think the people are ATRL are just being silly with "essay" - It's a few paragrpahs, hardly an essay. I'm sure they have the capability of being able to read it.
A: Haha, I'm sure, too. But I could say that 'essays' are your signature, at least, that's what members say. So I guess that you're not very happy about this nickname..or am I wrong? At least it makes you different from all the 'silly' trolling answers people usually give.
D_L: I'm not unhappy about it or happy about it. I don't really have any feelings towards it. I don't see it as a bad thing even if others do. Infact, you're right... there's nothing worse than opening a thread and reading all of those trolling one liners. I try to answer something to the best of my ability.
A: Would you like another nickname, apart from the 'essay guy'? Something that is more 'you' and perhaps atrl members don't notice it on you
D_L: I would love to be known as the guy that's always right lol, i doubt that will happen (I'm not always right). To be perfectly honest, I don't really mind what people think about me when it comes to ATRL. I can't really think of a nickname I'd rather have
A: Oh okay. When, how and why did you enter atrl?
D_L: July 2014, I entered because I had heard about it through a friend (A rihanna stan) and I thought it would be fun, so i signed up on the next registration.
A: Did you like atrl at first? You were like 'oh what a **** place is this' or 'wow, I like this place, why didnt I enter this before'?
D_L: When you first sign up it takes some adjusting. The language people use. What you can say and can't say. The moderating style of the different moderators. So at first I was like, WOW but after you become acclimatized to that, it's usually a pleasent experience.
A: when did you get your first ban? It was 1-2 months after your registration or something?
D_L: Less than a month ago, actually
A: Could you say that you are kinda of addicted to atrl or not? Or not yet

D_L: lol I use it fairly often to be honest. I check it regularly every few days. It depends, sometimes when I'm busy I can't so I guess you could say when I have the time, I'm addicted to it
A: Tell me two things you love and two things you hate about ATRL
D_L: I love being able to discuss issues with people that have different opinions to me. I love the Madonna base. I dislike the blog section. I feel like so many awful things can be said that often spill over into the main site. I dislike that at 5pm every damned day, it doesn't work for half an hour lol
A: I haven't experienced that yet, I'm probably sleeping at this time lol. Give me one word to describe atrl. I remember when I did this thread, the most popular answers were 'messy' and 'gay' haha, do you agree with any of them? Which is your word?
D_L: I agree with messy. ATRL can certainly be messy especially during that time when no moderators are online. I'll have to go with messy even though I don't think it's necessarily a fair representation of the majority of the site but it certainly describes it, often. Lol
A: Was there a moment that you actually HATED this place? You were like 'I'm not gonna re enter this ***'? Maybe when you were banned? There was another moment like that?
D_L: There have been times when I have thought that. There was a member in the blog section that was posting saying that I had aids and was a sexual predator. I find that kind of thing unacceptable and I had considered not coming back but then I remembered that a lot of the people on ATRL are kids that don't know any better. I deserved my ban, I was expecting it as I know what I said was going too far and was going to be warned for it.
A: Which was the member that posted this? and why exactly did you get ban?
D_L: I can't even remember the members name now sorry, it was a while ago. I got bannd due to making several comments. A little monster said something insulting and I went ahead and made fun of him/her for being bullied. It was the wron thing for me to do and I deserved the month break.
A: Have u recently seen this member who said that you were a sexual predator or he's inactive now?
D_L: No he's around I believe. Her certainly wasn't banned at the time. He may have been given warning points for it (I don't know) personally, i feel as if those kind of things should be an instant perm ban but I don't make the rules.
A: Speaking about rules, imagine that you were a member of a committee that was in charge of changing some things on ATRL. What new ideas would you suggest?
D_L: Yes, the coordination of moderators so that every time zone is covered. There's nothing worse than some disgruntled member on a rampage making offensive threads and no mods online to take care of it.
A: Would you like to be a moderator one day?
D_L: No. I would hate their Job. They have to put up with a lot. I also don't poses the ability to be "fair" so to speak. I'd ban certain members I dislike instantly. I wouldn't be a good moderator.
A: do some mods appeal to the description you just gave? "I wouldn't be fair, I'd ban certain members I dislike instantly'. Have you noticed any of this behaviour?
D_L: I used to think that they were bias but after interactions with all of them now I feel like people just misunderstand that each Mod has their own moderating style - I think they're all very fair. I don't always agree with their opinions. Retro and I have had some discussions in threads where we disagree totally, but they're all fair when it comes to their job
A: So Retro is your least-favourite mod? I mean, you can't like all of them equally..
D_L: No, I actually really like Retro. I contacted him on twitter once to ask a question for Swag (who was banned at the time) and he was happy to help me. Disagreing with someone doesn't mean I dsilike them. There are mods that I like more than others but that's only because I have had interaction with them, I don't dislike any of them.
A: But is there a least-favourite mod for you?
D_L: Iv'e never really spoken to Doc or Katie. I don't dislike them, Iv'e just never had to deal with them or had the chance to read their posts.
A: Members say that 'ATRL is a Gaga-friendly site'. Is this statement true, according to you?
D_L: One day of the week it is. LOL there are some occasions where it seems like every thread is pro gaga but then others when it seems as if every thread bashes her so.... I depends on the time.
A: I think you didnt get me. I mean, many people give this example 'If there's a thread shading Gaga and a thread shading artist X, the first one will be closed by the mods'. Do you agree?
D_L: Yes, I do agree. I think there's a reason for it though. - I think the threads shading gaga cause a lot more disruption than threads shading other artists. I think the monsters can be over sensetive at times and run into HQ and turn the thread into a mess. I don't think the mods are bias, I simply think they run in and close it to save themselves having to go through to mess and disruption that the thread has the potential to create.
A: Before we enter the pop music field discussion, let's have a few more atrl questions. Which is your favourite part? The Lounge, the base etc and why?
D_L: The base. I love making threads on things everyone can be involved in. I like the base "discussions"
A: Does 'the Base' have the coolest threads? Like threads that will catch your eyes immediately?
D_L: Yes, i would certainly say so. I love the base
A: which is your favourite atrl member ever? And why?
D_L: Oh god. There's so many that I love. I love thebeastwithin and alongoria and lanceslovesggaa and meowster. I don't have just one fave, sorry. It's because they have always been so kind to me. I think they're honestly great. OH and Boytoy - whom i just met in real life last night
A: Oh, did you give an appointment through ATRL or you just met him accidentally?
D_L: Through ATRL
A: 'It's because they have always been so kind to me'. Are you like this in real life, in other words, you accept people in your life that are kind to you or is it just ATRL? You know, there aren't so MANY kind people on ATRL, the fact that you found some of them, made you feel comfortable?
D_L: I'm like that in real life. I'll give anyone time if they're a good person. Yes, I consider myself lucky to have found some kind people on ATRL. Some of them are so awful and unpleasent.
A: I asked you about your favourite member/s. You knew that the following question was coming, didn't you haha....Give me one name and why.
D_L: There's a member i dislike becaause they don't offer anything valuable to any conversation, I assume it's because they don't have basic comprehension skills but their entire existence on ATRL revolves around co-signing other people's insults or flamebait and laughing at the misfortune of others.
A: are you talking about 'a' member or a lot?
D_L: I have really one come across one person that does this, to the extent where I dislike him.
A: Okay, let's get to the music field.
D_L: Great!
A: MADONNA. When did you find out about her, what feelings did you have in the very beginning towards her and when did you officially stan?
D_L: I can't remember the exact year but I remmeber watching the drowned world tour with my mother and i kept saying to myself "omg" - I was officially a stan since then
A: 80's, 90's, 00's or something?
D_L: 2000's however I have always been into her music, it was just at that time something just clicked.
A: your favourite song, your favourite album, your favourite world tour, your favourite music video and favourite lyrics by her.
D_L: I have a lot of favourite Madonna songs, If I HAD to chose only one it would be Vogue. Fave album would be Conssions, fave world tour is the MDNA tour, fave music video is like a prayer and fave lyrics are take a bow
A: 'Take a bow'? Why exactly?
D_L: I relate to it, a lot.
A: oh I see....If someone comes to your house and asks you 'tell me about Madonna, I don't know anything about her', what would you tell him/her?
D_L: I would ask them to leave because they must insane to have never heard of Madonna. I guess I would start from the begining. Talk about how she wrote the majority of her first album, explained how she changed the landscape of music, explored sexuality, fought for equality and of course show them a few of my fave videos
A: Is this why you love her and decided to stan for her? The fact that you relate to her songs, the fact that there was a 'click' when you listened to her music more carefully, the fact that she changed the music landscape?
D_L: Yes, I stan for her because I think she's a truely creative soul. You can't get a richer back catalogue than Madonna's and she took risks that are rarely seen in the business. Risks that could just have easily gone the other way and ended her career. I resprct the hard work and the ambition and I respect that she has always fought for my rights.
A: Do you want an epic comeback from her? Will her new album be something new, fresh and commercially successful?
D_L: I think it will be, based on the info we have though, Madonna doesn't hold the responsibility of being musically groundbreaking on every single release. She has changed the scope of music several times already. Whatever she create will be great, im sure.
A: "Pop Music's MY bitch". Words from your avi. Explain.
D_L: It's really just a play on words from when gaga kinda of attempted to call Miley out for those false teeth
A: I can guess that Gaga's personality isn't your favourite one, what about her music?
D_L: I enjoyed TF and TFM - everything afterwards is average at best but I can certainly dance to her stuff.
I don't really like her personality, though, it's natural, some people do, some people don't, like Madonna.
A: your favourite song of hers? I guess TFM is your favourite Gaga's album..
D_L: Yes, it is. But my fave song is Paparazzi
A: Did you expect GUY's underperformance?
D_L: I didn't expect it to do well but I was certainly surprised at just how badly it performed
A: Nowadays, she's in a different music path, the jazz path. Do you find this innovative, risky, positive?
D_L: Yeah she's certainly on a path... It's not innovative or risky or original but I think it's good for her.
A: Which is your second fave? Lorde, Rihanna, Katy?
D_L: Katy, Rihanna then Lorde
A: Let's start talking about Lorde. Previously, you said that you like her a lot. Why exactly? Do you see her presenting and bringing something new on music industry
D_L: I think Pure Heroine is an amazing album. I'm not sure where she is headed but she is so, so talented
A: Slaying the charts, record-breaking chanteuse(let's put some ATRL in here), a lot of remarkable hits. She has officially became a touring force. What are your thoughts about Katheryn Hudson? How far can she get?
D_L: I don't think anyone will ever achieve or come close to Madonna but I see katy Perry as someone that will achieve longevity. I see how in some instances she is similar to Madonna and I feel like she will go very far indeed. I can't wait to see her live actually
A: Favourite song and album by Katy?
D_L: Part of Me. PRISM
A: Does Katy receive a lot of hate by atrl members? Could you give me your own explanation to this phenomenon, if you agree with the question I made.
D_L: Yes. She does, I feel like it's because a lot of people don't like that she is becomming much more sucessful than their faves. Everyone wants their fave to be at the top but not everyone can have that, so.... it creates some tension
A: What do you expect from her in her next era and as an involving artist?
D_L: I'm not sure tbh. I think she'll pump out some more great pop tracks and I honestly can'y wait but yeah, what she will do is anyones guess
A: Let's get to Rihanna. Favourite song, album and music video.
D_L: Fave song is we found love. Fave album is Loud and fave music video is again, we found love
A: Do you like her style?
D_L: I like her style a lot, yes I think we have a lot of them - too many and we need less which is why I think people like lorde are becomming popular. I think the industry is going to experience a shift soon
A: On the sales sides of things for sure, but I think that has more to do with the current music climate. Streaming, piracy etc etc. Do you see this changing on the future? Or music will be only about singles and streaming? Will radio and albums die?
D_L: I'm really not sure. It depends on what actions the people in the industry take. There's just so many ways it could go, i really don't know
A: Tell me 3-4 new artists, expect for Lorde, that you use.
D_L: Ariana
A: Haha only?
D_L: wow, such a hard question lol ummmm yeah I don't really use a lot of new artists. Iggy, if she can be considered new.
