Endemol Shine North America and Major TV have optioned the television rights to Chris Perez’s book To Selena With Love, which tells the story of the late Latin music superstar through the eyes of her husband. The book will be adapted both for English- and Spanish-speaking audiences as a potential TV series, with miniseries and TV movie also possibilities.
In To Selena With Love, which was published in 2012, Perez recounts his tragic love story with singer Selena Quintanilla.
Quintanilla, who recorded as Selena, has sold 60 million albums worldwide. The Texas-born singer made her recording debut in the 1980s and went on to score such hit albums as Amor Prohibido and Selena Live, winning a Grammy for the latter. In 1995, she was murdered by the founder of her fan club. Her last album, Dreaming of You, was released posthumously in 1995 and became a huge hit. Selena’s life story was the subject of a 1997 film, Selena, which starred Jennifer Lopez in her career-making role as the Tejano superstar and James Edward Olmos as her father.
Selena literally had the biggest year of the pop girls lol. MAC collection, Star on Walk of Fame, Wixom Figure, Vinyl releases, T.VZ show and she's been gone for 21 years
i always found it weird that a bio of her life came out less than two years after her death like she wasn't even buried that long and they already starting casting and filming
Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., is taking the late singer's widower Chris Perez and production company Endemol Shine Latino to court over the development of a television series based on Perez's "unauthorized" memoir To Selena With Love.
Quintanilla presented a lawsuit against Perez and Endemol on Friday in a Texas court to halt the production of the forthcoming series. According to court documents, "Defendant Perez expressly agreed that he would not exploit any of the Entertainment Properties in any manner or medium, including, without limitation, by way of a book, television series, movie, or any other motion picture medium."
