Do singing show favorites get better songs than non-faves?
In my opinion, I've noticed that artists who were fan favorites on Idol, X Factor or The Voice - winner or not - have made much better quality songs than the non-favorites.
Let's take a look:
American Idol
- Daughtry, Elliott Yamin & Katharine McPhee all released much better quality music than Taylor. Home, Over It and Wait For You all fall under that category
- Crush by David Archuleta was much more listenable than Light On and it also was more successful.
- Adam Lambert's music has been much more appealing to people than Kris Allen's. Whataya Want From Me charted higher than Live Like We're Dying. Allison Iraheta's music was also a bit more poppy.
- Haley Reinhart, Lauren Alaina & Pia Toscano all released much catchier or much better quality music than Scotty McCreery.
- Even though Phillip Phillips is the worst singer of the WGWGS, he has the most radio appeal and Gone Gone Gone was magic. Jessica Sanchez released Tonight which was also pretty good.
- Angie Miller's You Set Me Free was 10 times better than Candice Glover's I Am Beautiful
X Factor
- Alexandra, JLS & Diana all were able to release music that people liked and were successful
- Olly Murs was more successful than Joe McElderry and released Troublemaker and Heart Skips a Beat
- 1D, Rebecca Ferguson & Cher Lloyd all released much better records than Matt Cardle - who ended up fading into oblivion while the other three went on to have success
- Little Mix's DNA album has had a lot of good gems for a debut album to come from an X Factor act.
- Emblem3 and Fifth Harmony both got much more interesting material than Tate Stevens.
- X Factor Australia winners Reece Mastin & Samantha Jade both released smash songs following their wins. Christina Parie, Johnny Ruffo & The Collective have released some good songs too.
The Voice
- Cassadee Pope released Wasting All These Tears, while Danielle Bradbery released The Heart of Dixie.
So do fan-favorites make better quality songs than non-faves?
