MTV announces 2009 VMA nominees
UPDATE, 12 PM ET: All the 2009 VMA nominees are now posted
http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2009/categories.jhtml
Original story from E! Online:
Britney Spears has done it again.
I can exclusively reveal that our favorite comeback kid has been nominated for not one, not two, not three…well, seven MTV Video Music Awards.
Last year, the pop princess made a brilliant return to the VMA stage when she took home three Moon Man trophies for "Piece of Me."
And while we hate to remember this...
Could ya believe it was only two years ago that Spears solidified her trainwreck status at the VMAs in Las Vegas with her disastrous performance of "Gimme More" in front of an audience that included Megan Fox?
This year's awards will be handed out and broadcast live on MTV from New York's Radio City Music Hall Sept. 13. Russell Brand returns as host.
No word yet if Brit will be added to this year's performance roster, which already includes Taylor Swift, Pink, Green Day and Muse. Additional nominees and performers are expected to be announced later today.

They're really teasing us here without giving anything away:

Eminem And Kanye West Go Head-To-Head At 2009 MTV VMAs
The hip-hop superstars will compete with each other in four categories on September 13.
By James Montgomery
We don't know all the nominees for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards just yet, but it's difficult to imagine them getting any bigger than this: On Tuesday (August 4), MTV News learned that two of the hugest names in the game today — Eminem and Kanye West — each received four VMA nominations, in the same four categories, which should make for one rather intense showdown come VMA night.
Eminem's "We Made You" clip goes up against and Yeezy's "Love Lockdown" for Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Hip Hop Video. And "We Made You" squares off with Kanye's "Paranoid" for Best Special Effects.
Eminem has already won a staggering nine Moonmen. While West has only won a pair, he has landed 11 nominations in the past — and he leads Em in the Backstage VMA Meltdowns category. But given Em's surprise star turn at this year's MTV Movie Awards (and remember his VMA encounter with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog back in 2002?), we don't know what to expect from either artist this time around.
So, really, this one is too close to call. And what else would you expect from two of hip-hop's top-ranked heavyweights? Whenever the big guns come out, it's almost impossible to predict who'll come out on top.
Luckily, you will be the ones determining the winner, by voting for your favorite Moonman contender at VMA.MTV.com.
So, will it be Em's night, or will Kanye walk away victorious? Find out when the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards return to New York City, live, September 13 at 9 pm. Outrageous Brit Russell Brand returns to host, and Taylor Swift, Pink, Green Day and Muse have all been confirmed as performers.
The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards will take place September 13 at 9 p.m. ET. Nominees, celebrity presenters and additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks. To be the first to find out the inside scoop, follow the Inside MTV Twitter account at Twitter.com/InsideMTV.

Congratulations to Beyoncé and Lady Gaga!
The powerhouse singers scored a whopping nine MTV Video Music Award nominations each, PEOPLE confirms exclusively.
The leading ladies tied for the most nominations in 2009, including video of the year and best female video.
"I'm excited and honored to be tied for most nominated for the VMAs," Beyoncé says. "I've been blessed this year to have 'Single Ladies' become a video people really connected with and responded to. I've spent so much time watching all the great versions people created all around the world. It's beautiful to feel you touch people and bring a song to life with a video."
The VMAs will take place on Sept. 13 at locations around New York City, including Radio City Music Hall.
For the second year in a row, British comedian Russell Brand will host the event, which will feature presenters Katy Perry, Ne-Yo and Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford as well as performances by Taylor Swift and Pink.
"Last year I got to jump out of a window at the VMAs in L.A.," Pink said. "This year I can't wait to blow the roof off Radio City in New York."
Check back with PEOPLE.com for the full list of 2009 MTV Video Music Award nominees.

YES!
Even if she's not there or wins awards, you know she'll still own it, somehow, someway.
