Well, something that bothers me is that even when black artists are successful, their success and impact is often swept under the rug. Many places outside of the America just pay black artists dust. It's funny when someone calls someone like Elvis the greatest musician when he was basically a copycat. I posted this in your earlier Madonna vs. Janet thread. It's sad how people try and downplay her impact.

But according to them, all that, plus her hundreds of millions of records sold, don't matter because she was just Michael's little sister. The minute you downplay the commercial success and impact of their faves (most of whom dance, perform, and express sensuality like Janet did in her prime) they want to start a war. But they always do that to Janet. They barely even acknowledge her Superbowl accident being the reason they have YouTube. The charts, stats, old performances are there if they just did their research. They can look up Madonna's 80s and 90s stuff, but not Janet's? Funny how someone in her brother's shadow is still technically bigger than most of their faves could ever hope to be. I really feel like the same reason Janet is ignored in favor of all the pop girls she's influenced is the same reason Motown's 60s impact gets ignored and when people think about the 60s, they only think about the beatles. At this rate it wouldn't surprise me if in 20 years they acted like Beyoncé and Rihanna were non-factors; half the world already tries now to downplay the success both have had.
This thread for me isn't even about who has more impact, I already gave that to Madonna. But these ignorant people in here acting as if Janet had no impact and influence whatsoever is a crime. She's still bigger than GaGa, Shakira, J.Lo, Katy, Miley, How can all of your minds not grasp that? You wouldn't have Miley, Selena Gomez without Britney. You wouldn't have Britney without Janet. How can all of your minds not grasp that? And even if she didn't sell as many records as her contemporaries, she still had far more impact. More impact than Cher, Barbara, Céline, even arguably Mariah. Just becase you, or your parents, choose to ignore impact doesn't mean it doesn't exist and play a role.
