Does anyone miss the days when Hip-Hop and R&B dominated?
Like, IDK I was thinking about it the past few days and it seems like right now Electro-Pop and Dance music is in. I don't have an issue with it but does anyone miss the days when crunk artists like Lil Jon and REAL rap artists like 50 Cent, Nelly, Ja Rule, etc. and real R&B/soul artists like Monica, Brandy, Mariah, Ashanti, Amerie, dominated the charts like they did in the early 2000s? Heck, even cracking the Top 10 these days is hard for these artists. Now all we have today is lame ringtone rappers like Soulja Boy, Gucci, and Roscoe Dash.mazen: I mean we still have a couple people like Jay and Eminem keeping the game alive but that's pretty much it right now... And what bothers me is Urban artists like Usher are now changing their music styles to fit the new trend.
These = CLASSICS.
I hope Hip-Hop and R&B make a strong comeback in the next few years.
^ Not me. I do like some of the pop stuff here and there, but I'm definitely not a huge fan.
Personally, the last great year of music was probably circa 2000 or 2001. Every year after that has been hit or miss. I do see Urban music dominating again, but I hope it's more like the 90s where talented urban artists were smashing. The reign of Nelly, Ashanti and Ja Rule was just ok. They all faded kinda quickly.
I really didn't start taking notice of music/radio in general until the mid to late 90's.....but once I did I have generally liked all the trends that have come since. I have my favorite artists of course but each trend exposed me to such a wide variety of music, not to mention I have found new favorite artists along the way.
But to be honest, I'm tired of the electro-pop/more dance oriented music trend.....everyone is REALLY starting to sound the same, especially the male artists, half the time I can't tell the difference between Taio Cruz, Jason Derulo, Jay Sean, Usher etc....the females do a better job at standing out from one another but even they fall victim to sounding like imitations of one another.
When I need to escape, I turn to Country....my guiltiest pleasure. I live for Sugarland.
Taio Cruz, Jason Derulo, Jay Sean, Usher etc....the females do a better job at standing out from one another but even they fall victim to sounding like imitations of one another.
That's why NONE of the males besides Usher sale albums. And Ke$ha has outsold them.
Yeah, they don't really standout from each other. That is my biggest complaint with Taio Cruz, Jason DeRulo, Jeremih, Iyaz, Mike Posner, etc. Their voices are eerily similar, and it doesn't help that they make the same type of music or close to it. Bruno Mars kinda falls into that trap, but he has been smart. He has been featured on two Hip Hop records and released an EP. I could see him doing better than those artists.
