The multimillionaire creator of ABC's hit TV show NYPD Blue is $17million in debt, living on $40 a week, and running garage sales to earn cash after gambling away his fortune at the races, a report reveals.
Four-time Emmy winner David Milch, 70, earned more than $100million over 30 years in Hollywood.
Even now, he is working on a new HBO movie starring Jeff Bridges and a TV adaptation of Deadwood.
But at home, his wife Rita Milch and daughters are racing to sell off their homes, worth $13million, and overhaul their lives after they discovered Milch had guzzled away their livelihood.

But it wasn't until March 2011 that Rita saw documents showing how many checks David discreetly shifted from their account to the Santa Anita race track in California, she claims.
Now Rita, 60, is suing the family's business manager Nigro Karlin Segal Feldstein & Bolno LLP (NKSFB) claiming it deliberately hid the true scale of David's gambling from her, according to legal papers seen by The Hollywood Reporter.
Their family owes $5million in unpaid taxes, $10million in mortgages, and $2million in fees to NKSFB.
According to the suit filed last year, Rita, an artist, has been forced to sell jewelry and art.
Friends told THR she has been holding garage sales to support their family.
Meanwhile, they are in the midst of selling off all their properties.
