The Top 100 of 2015

100. Chet Faker-"Gold"



Gold is a song about the vanity of love by Australian electronica artist Chet Faker. Personally, his voice and appearance remind me more of a lumberjack hipster, but whatever. This song and music video are incredible.

099. That Poppy-"Lowlife"




I had a Poppy phase for a week in October when her Stolen Dance and My Kind of Woman covers were all I needed. You can tell that Poppy has been taking cues from Scream Queens, Marina & The Diamonds, Lana Del Rey and Katy Perry....but she also likes indie pop a lot (think alt-J and Mac DeMarco) and has a lot of potential. For now, her one pop single is a colorful song about someone who makes your life better.

098. Traffic Island-"Johnny Had A Boyfriend"




This unknown Finnish band did a song about an older gay man jealous of the new generation who can be openly gay. A very relevant topic, and a touching music video!

097. Death Cab For Cutie-"Black Sun"




As far as bland white rock music bands go, I really dug Death Cab this year. Poor Coldplay!

096. Sam Hunt-"Break Up In A Small Town"




I don't think Sam is a product of Taylor Swift like many Taylor fans claim. He has been experimenting and pushing the boundaries of country on his own and this is perhaps his most interesting track. The writing is stellar, and the music video is something I'd expect from an indie band,not your average country singer. Yet, that is precisely what Sam is not: average.
