it's irregular af and it makes no sense at moments
why is it forty but not fo
urty? and what's up with the fact that the spelling doesn't match the pronunciation like half of the time
not to mention the amount of irregular past participles
and why is "read" the past tense of "read"?
I mean we're ahead of the curve on swearing and the flexibility of the word "like", like… (
) but fr
and why is it "spelt" and "spelled"? why is there no standard spelling?
I've gotten into like three debates over "spelt" v "spelled"
and why is the plural of "ox" "oxen" but not "ox
es" since we say "boxes" as the plural for "box"?
+ also why do we steal from french so much? like 1/4 of our vocab has french origins. coup d'état, sous-chef, art, paint, justice, judge, theatre, arcade, arch, vault, veal, beef, harmony, beige, maroon, blue, television, oxygen… the list goes on
english what's GOOD
I mean not to mention the language is quite unnecessarily flexible. you can make a new "word" easily
