Baby girl killed by 'American pit bull-type' pet dog
Father Pays Tribute To His 'Beautiful Little Girl' Mauled To Death By Dog
Quote:
An 11-month-old girl has died after being mauled by a dog at a home in Blackburn, Lancashire Police said today. The child, mauled to death in Blackburn by an "American pitbull-type" dog, has been named by Lancashire Police as Ava Jayne Marie Corless.
Her father today paid tribute to his "beautiful little girl."
Ava-Jayne's father Dean Corless today revealed his devastation, saying: "She was the most beautiful and adorable little girl, she was just the best. She was my whole world.
"I will miss her every single day, I just don't know what to do now. It is just so tragic. I have my family around me now, but we are all devastated."
The little girl was rushed to Royal Blackburn Hospital around 11pm last night from the house in Emily Street, but doctors were unable to save her, and she died from her injuries.
The victim's mother and stepfather, who were downstairs at the time of the attack, have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. The dog was seized by police and has now been destroyed.
"The baby was upstairs in a bed in one of the front bedrooms and the two people who are currently in custody, they were downstairs when the attack took place.
"The dog is believed to be an American pit bull type, it has been destroyed and tests will be carried out today to establish the exact breed of the dog and inquiries into the history of the animal."

Disgusting. I know the argument is that dogs are only violent if they've been raised that way but I'm still deeply distrustful of these kinds of dog breeds.
RIP to the little girl and I hope the mother and step father are held accountable. That poor father losing his daughter

Pitbulls can be lovely pets, as can any dog.
The owners are the f**ked up ones.

Pit bulls are very known for these kind of attacks here in my country. There's even a case of a little girl too, who was around 4-6 years old girl who was broken into pieces by one. My neighbor has one and I can even touch him, and she's a really lovely person, those dogs are well know for being violent to kids. My condolences go out to the father and the family, I know how it feels to lose someone really close to you.

Anyways those things are so cute.
It's almost hard to believe.

Yes because that's the breed of the dog.
and it doesn't matter if they look cute (they don't), it's the way they've been raised and the life they've had.

What the hell. Were they not watching the baby or did they just let the dog attack the baby? It's irresponsible to leave dogs or any animal around your baby really.

Ironically enough, the vast majority of large dogs are far nicer than any runty ones you come across.
Why?
People scold large dogs for barking, jumping, chasing, biting, etc. and they stop. If in fact they DO show any of these things, they get labeled as aggressive, frightening, and "dangerous."
However, people think little dogs are cute and harmless.
If a little dog barks, they are just yappy, if they jump on people, they are playful, if they chase kids, they are energetic, if they bite, they are just nibbling.
Add all of it up and you see that little dogs get away with being VAST AMOUNTS more aggressive and never adjusting their behavior. As a result, media chooses to go after the gentle giants instead, and get hits over the rare cases of Pit-bull or Doberman aggression. It is a double standard, really.
On topic, though, I place my bet right now that the parents did it or, at the very least, get jail time for negligence. Put a baby in a crib, not on the bed, and certainly not alone.

I do know little dogs can be aggressive too, I have a poodle, it's 8 years and it doesn't get along with kids, its name is Oso, but I am always very careful when he's around children. I have a large dog too and she isn't aggressive, she's a weimaraner and her name is Sasha, she is really quite and has never bitten anyone, she gets along with kids. I see what you're trying to say, but at least, in Venezuela, Pit bulls are very known for that kind of attacks, one even killed a soldier once.

dogs are smart animals , but not smarter then humans (in general) - they dont know how society works and you have to train them - in most cases you dont even need to train them, but pitbull temperaments are strong so in this case you have too

Yes, they do look cute. If you say they don't, you obviously need to see an optometrist stat.
