UK: Top 40 Biggest Vinyl Singles and Albums Of The Decade
Quote:
Following the launch of the UK’s first Official Vinyl Charts, we take a look at the Official Top 40 Biggest Vinyl Singles and Albums of the decade so far.
David Bowie’s Life on Mars is the biggest-selling vinyl single of the decade so far, the Official Charts Company can reveal.
The third biggest-selling vinyl album in our countdown belongs to the first of three Number 1s on the list, Lady Gaga’s Telephone FT Beyonce.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have the most entries on the Official Top 40 Biggest Vinyl Singles of the decade so far with a total of seven. Other acts with multiple entries include; David Bowie (6), Beady Eye (5), and Morrissey (3).
I think it means Lady Gaga has a really devoted fanbase, more than anything. Same with Kylie Minogue's entry.
Beyoncé has a long history of great performing singles in the UK as well (Drunk went Top 10 without a WW release ) so the two forces combined meant they could slay even the dying (in 2010) vinyl market
Remember Lady Gaga got her sixth and final week at #1 with "Born This Way" here in the US due to the almost unheard of sales total of 24,000 physical singles. I know she printed 5,000 pink vinyl copies of Born This Way, but I think those were 12" maxis, not 7s.
