12am is midnight, or so I've been taught...
It's weird and kind of illogical, though.
10pm-11pm-
12am
-1am?
Like, bitch, how?!
I prefer 24hr format.

It's not illogical, PM means after noon, and the moment you read "12 PM" noon has passed.

But if 12am is exactly halfway in between, who are they to say whether it's before or afterwards?

The clock indicates the time that has passed since the beginning of the day at midnight, so 12am is logically before noon.

Why does midnight have to be the start of the day, though?
