Does it really even matter? MTV is going down the drain and after the VMAs it reconfirmed to the people who don't watch it why they don't. They're not getting any new viewers and they sure as hell are not keeping the ones they already have.
*Ahem* /begin rant
Now if MTV was smart they would:
1) Put most (or all) of these "****** reality shows" on VH1, Spike TV, or Oxygen. Keep shows that have something to do with music like Making the Band and create ORIGINAL series that are relevant to music. Axe Diddy from all future programming.
2) For the love of God and his mother Mary, stop showing marathons of NEXT, Parental Control, The Hills, Laguna Beach, Room Raiders, and X Effect. How absurdly fake are these shows anyway? Also, The Real World should be about real-life issues, not bitchy ****.
3) Invest In Music Education (like VH1): Make series that teach and challenge the young viewers to make music and to expand their listening archive of music with a variety of genres. Same goes for MTV2.
4) Rock music is what started MTV. Where the hell is it?
5) Bring back all other genres that you knocked off to be a Hip-Pop channel
6) Take your current staff, VJs and news correspondents, line them up outside by a wall, tell them to stand facing the wall, and put a bullet through each and every one of their heads except Pak, Kash, Stolz, Calloway, and Loder-- those five are decent. Hire a brand new staff with actual talent and/or looks. I understand Kurt Loder has been there for years, how could you possibly let him go?... boo hoo-- STFU and do not cut him... Loder can stay. John Norris, another longtime MTV News correspondent, should get the boot.
7) Pull the plug on TRL temporarily. The show has officially hit rock bottom and that's why MTV now forces viewers to sit through commercials to see the videos. The show needs to take a break and come back with something fresh and new-- and this time make it a show that you don't rig.
Now even if they were do to all these things, it still wouldn't work because people don't trust them anymore. So whoever owns them (****ing Viacom?) would have to announce that they're revamping the company and that it will be run by new management.
8) Expand MTV News and its documentaries. However, John Norris needs to be fired from his job.
Kim Stolz, SuChin Pak, Tim Kash, and Kurt Loder can stay on MTV News, time to bring back Gideon Yago, Serena Altschul, Chris Connelly, and/or Iann Robinson to the roster. Sway and Liz should be promoted to VJ status. Add more reporters and possibly start the MTV News Network.
I agree with this plan.
