Grammy-nominated artist Keri Hilson visited Memphis Tuesday to give a free concert as part of a promotional tour.
The music at the "Walmart Road to Essence Music Festival Concert in Memphis" was hot Tuesday, and so was the unbearable heat.
The warm temps were too much for many who passed out after succumbing to the heat during the concert, held at the Walmart on Winchester Road. According to Memphis Firefighters, one person had to be treated for heat exhaustion.
"I brought my children out," Renita Lauderdale said. "Let them go ahead. I'll stay cool. I gave them plenty of water before they went out there, but that's fine."
Excited fans didn't let the hot weather stop them from taking part in the special 45 minute mini-concert featuring Grammy nominated singer Keri Hilson and singer-songwriter Ledisi.
"My security had to pull out a couple girls who were fatigued and about to pass out," Hilson said. "Beyond that it was a lot of energy and it was beautiful."
After the concert was over, hundreds poured into the Walmart to cool off, hoping to get an autographed copy of Hilson's latest CD. But when chaos erupted inside the store, Walmart had to temporarily close its doors to allow security to regain control of the crowd.
Despite the heat and chaos, those who attended the concert said having the opportunity to see two of their favorite artists perform was well worth it.
"I love Keri Hilson," Nadia Matthews said. "She's a positive roll model and I think it's great she came to Memphis."
The Memphis concert is one of numerous in-store concerts and events throughout the nation leading up to the Essence Music Festival.
This lying ass bitch. The News would have reported this in Memphis. They didn't even say anything about her being there on the radio or tv. I wouldn't have even know if it weren't for the fact my cousin knows someone who works at walmart.
I can't lie though I thought she was at the walmart in my town and was about to go get her autograph/
