So I know there's already been a thread like this but it's been long due and I am wondering what my ATRL sisters think
My friend and I just had a huge debate while we had dinner at this sushi restaurant. She said it's ridiculous that people complain about others not tipping in restaurants but then they go on not tipping delivery boys as well as in other situations when tipping is deemed mandatory. I replied saying I think tipping in general is ridiculous and redundant. Servants here make as much as the regular woman or man who works in a grocery store or something alike.
How do y'all feel about TIPPING and not just in restaurants?
Oh man lol. The tipping threads always get so messy
I don't think tipping SHOULD be mandatory but it is some places. I personally tip at sit-down restaurants and for delivery. The amount depends on the service.
I heard that Sonic expects people to tip. I never have tbh.
yes, mandatory, unless the waiter was rude. The way I think of it is that without a waiter, I'd have to go and demand the cooks to make my meal, check on it repeatedly, and bring it all out when it's finally ready. I think their duties are worth a few more of my dollars.
I tip always. If I get good service it's usually 17-20% range. Bad service usually 10 - 15%. Really depends. Apparently in Europe tipping isn't done often. Don't know how true that is. I only tip when I'm being waited on, not at a take-out place or anything.
I think tipping is only a huge debate in countries like the USA where waiters get paid horribly. But even in that case I feel like it should not be compulsory to tip as wages are partially the fault of restaurant owners.
