This week, Adele's "21" becomes the first album since 2005 to notch 30 weeks of 100,000-plus sales. The blockbuster set moved 399,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan, marking not only its best sales frame ever, but its 30th non-consecutive 100,000-plus stanza.
Since SoundScan began tallying weekly point-of-sale purchases in 1991, only 14 albums have managed the achievement. Previous to "21," the last to do so was Usher's "Confessions," which racked 33 frames of 100,000 or more between 2004 and 2005.
Adele's "21" has never sold less than 76,000 in a week (on the Billboard 200 chart dated Aug. 20, 2011) since it debuted 44 weeks ago at No. 1.
With "21's" third single, "Set Fire to the Rain," soaring into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week (13-7), the album seems set to capture further 100,000-plus frames in the coming months.
Here are the 14 albums that have notched at least 30 weeks of 100,000-plus sales since 1991:
Artist, Title - Weeks Of 100,000-Plus Sales (Years)
Alanis Morissette, "Jagged Little Pill" - 64 (1995-1997)
Britney Spears, "...Baby One More Time" - 50 (1999-2000)
Creed, "Human Clay" - 49 (1999-2001)
Celine Dion, "Falling Into You" - 43 (1996-1997)
Shania Twain, "Come on Over" - 42 (1997-2000)
Hootie & the Blowfish, "Cracked Rear View" - 40 (1995-1996)
Santana, "Supernatural" - 39 (1999-2000)
Backstreet Boys, "Millennium" - 34 (1999-2000)
Usher, "Confessions" - 33 (2004-2005)
Spice Girls, "Spice" - 32 (1997-1998)
Billy Ray Cyrus, "Some Gave All" - 31 (1992-1993)
NSYNC, "No Strings Attached" - 31 (2000-2001)
Kid Rock, "Devil Without a Cause" - 30 (1999-2000)
Adele, "21" - 30 (to date) (2011-2012)
What could the 100,000-plus streak forecast for the long-term future of "21"? Perhaps very good news: Of those 14, seven of them are among the top 10 best-selling albums in the entire SoundScan era:
SoundScan's Top 10 Best-Selling Albums (1991-Present)
Artist, Title (Sales)
Metallica, "Metallica" (15.73 million)
Shania Twain, "Come On Over" (15.51 million)
Alanis Morissette, "Jagged Little Pill" (14.71 million)
Backstreet Boys, "Millennium" (12.17 million)
The Beatles, "1" (11.97 million)
Soundtrack/Whitney Houston, "The Bodyguard" (11.83 million)
Santana, "Supernatural" (11.72 million)
Creed, "Human Clay" (11.57 million)
NSYNC, "No Strings Attached" (11.12 million)
Celine Dion, "Falling Into You" (10.79 million)
Currently, Adele's "21" is the No. 110 biggest-selling album in the SoundScan era, with 5.68 million sold. 155 albums have sold at least 5 million since SoundScan began tracking sales.

#14 Adele - 30
# 2 Britney Spears "...Baby One More Time" - 50
Adele is coming for Britney's wig for 50 consecutive weeks in the top 10. This wig will be easy to snatch. I don't see 21 vacating the top 10 in the next several months.

Congrats to Adele, but it's annoying how many of those other albums suck.

Considering no big albums are getting released in the first few months, there aren't gonna be many albums to hold it down. 21 is gonna be in the top 10 easily until at least April or May.

How can there even be payola in album sales?
are you gonna pay people to buy your own album.
it doesn't make any sense.
