The Appeal of Debut Albums
Has anyone else noticed that the debut albums of most of the artists are superior to their next efforts. I think it is because they have a lot to say when they start out, so their debut albums are very heartfelt and emotional, which is very appealing to the listeners.
In debut albums I also lump the albums where artists finally took the creative control of their music (e.g. P!nk with M!ssundaztood).
This is particularly obvious with the rappers. With their first albums they have a lot to say about their life and background, but they usually flop with their followups, because they usually are not as emotional and they've let out their demons while making their debuts.
And now I see Lorde and this great debut album she made. I really wonder if she will manage to keep up the quality with her next effort.
So does your fave fit this pattern? Is their debut a masterpiece based on their personal life before making it big? and have they kept up the quality with the followups?
Disclaimer: does not apply to girls who have never taken creative control over their music/careers.
