it's kinda the perception tho. i see the point ur making but Bruce Springsteen is not questioned as an icon for anything that he sings , even if he WERE to sing about explicit sex he would never receive the same reaction as Madonna would for being a woman her age singing about it
Madonna can experience more chart success with it, sure, but it comes with public backlash, and people saying 'oh she's a washed up old tart', 'she's lost her touch', and even trickles down to delusional internet forum posters claiming that it affects her prior impact / legacy
ageism is 200% more of an issue for females than it is for males. people shouldn't even try to argue it. the way that females are objectified just for putting themselves out there happens in a way that simply just does not happen for males. that's a complete double standard

having said all of that, i think bigger issues in the music industry currently pertain to racial politics of who gets marketed (like how Tinashe said recently how there can only be one or two black pop girls at a time, and then other people end up getting shut out) and maybe selfishly i think how sexuality/sexual orientation affects people's marketing chances.
