I mean she's obviously talented, there's no denying that. But she's not THAT talented. Let's start from her singing shall we? Her range is pitiful for someone deemed a 'vocalist' and while the use of her vocals may come 'as a surprise' for a pop singer it's really nothing that you don't see from any regular Broadway performer or act even without much vocal talent in terms of her acoustic performances. You can see how true that is when we look at her up-beat or mid-tempo performances where she struggles and strains her vocals quite a lot despite the tracks being some of the easiest to sing-along to.
[In terms of backing up this claim just look up Katy's EMA's cabaret performance - she 'kills' it vocally despite not being much of a gifted singer AT ALL]
The key is in training (and not even much of it, just adapting a specific technique really) and her vocals are sub-par compared to what they are ''acclaimed'' to be by many (see: Little Monsters). The charade she puts on in terms of her vocals is beyond transparent and while I applaud her effort in making herself seem far more ''talented'' and ''gifted'' than she actually is I also pity the fact she's so insecure about her actual talents that she has to mask them with tricks and cheats to make her seem what she isn't.
But then again isn't her entire 'career' a gimmick? So why not the vocal aspect of it too?
Furthermore, ANYONE can write but can you write GOOD is the question that matters and sorry to say but getting wasted/high and grabbing the nearest dictionary, a few religious books alongside a fashion almanac does not qualify as ''good writing''. Gaga's lyrics are often sub-par to even Katy's in terms of structure, references, phrases, comparisons and one of the most important things that makes a proper ''good'' work literally terms and metaphors where hers are awfully ridiculous. One may argue to say we only perceive it as such cause we don't understand it but honestly can you read a Gaga song and say that's something you could call a work of a even decent writer if she wasn't where she is? You wouldn't.
It's difficult to pick out the work that stands out as ''most proper'' when it comes to grading literature in pop culture but if it was between lets say Katy, Gaga and Taylor guess who'd end up at the bottom? Yes, the ''risk-taker''.
She may not play it safe but she's certainly failing to deliver the art form she boats about so much in her so-called ''art''. Even these two above offer more value in terms of that and any analysis of their work would give you the same conclusion.
And lastly (and I'll keep it short) playing instruments is a learnt technique and once again ANYONE can play them with just a little bit of effort and time but can you be good and gifted at it is a different realm ain't it?
So without further-ado can we just bury this fraud with no career already and stop talking about her charade of non-existing or heavily overrated ''talents''? Let the poor girl's career rest in peace. Thank you.
