Hi guys
This is my first ever 'Best of...' list so I'm gonna keep it simple and count down my favourite 20 songs of 2014.
The songs in the countdown were all either released, or on an album/EP that was released in 2014.

Every day I will post a new song with 'special additions':
Because I think that ATRL needs more musical theatre in their life, I will also be posting a song from a musical along with my countdown song. These songs are not from 2014, but are great anyway.

I'll begin with my honourable mention tracks and begin the official countdown tomorrow. Hope you enjoy!

Timebomb - Tove Lo
What a great tune. It builds for the first minute of the song then doesn't let up for the rest.

Meltdown - Stromae feat. Lorde, Pusha T, Q-Tip and Haim
The beat in this song is amazing! Lorde's vocals are great as always and the outro by Haim is my favourite part of the song. I don't normally like rap in songs but here it works.
Fav lyric: 'Try to restrain us, even though you trained us, we're better than you are, now we're gonna make you feed us'.

Let Go For Tonight - Foxes
Great voice, and a chorus that just explodes. Catchy tune.

Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran
Not one of my favourites of 2014, but it does have a special place in my heart as it was used as the first song my best friend and her husband danced to at their wedding a few months ago.

You're On - Madeon feat. Kyan
Great beat, and quite catchy. It's a little repetitive which is probably why it didn't make my main list, but still an awesome tune.

Never Been In Love - Cobra Starship feat. Icona Pop
This was so close to making my main list! Catchy tune which I couldn't stop singing the day I heard it. It sounds quite different from the last album released by Cobra Starship. The lyrics are a little cheese though.

Let It Go - Kerry Ellis
Kerry Ellis is a musical theatre performer who has performed and created an album with Brian May, the guitarist from the band Queen. She has a phenomenal voice and I love her rendition of 'Let It Go' from the musical film 'Frozen'.

#20 Kimbra - 90's Music

For those of us who were born in the 90's and look back at the music from that decade with fond memories, Kimbra's tune will particularly resonate with us and give us a sense of nostalgia. For those who weren't born in the 90's - this is still a great song! I'm sure that whatever decade we were born in, we can all relate to hearing a song for the first time in years that represents a special person, place or memory, whether that song makes you laugh or cry. Kimbra has truly delivered with 90's music, her ode to nostalgia.
Other great songs from Kimbra's album 'The Golden Echo' include Teen Heat, Goldmine and Miracle.
Favourite lyric: 'stopped at the drive-in of our spring fling, and then the radio played that song we used to sing'

Musical song of the day: Endless Night - The Lion King Broadway Cast Recording

As promised, here is my musical theatre song of the day, and what a great song it is!
We all remember that heartbreaking scene in 'The Lion King' when Mufasa was cruelly pushed to his death, followed by poor Simba trying in vain to wake him, his young voice cracking with emotion as he quietly asks 'Dad?'
If you don't remember this scene you have obviously repressed the memory as it is too traumatising to relive over and over, and that's perfectly understandable.
The musical song of the day is from the broadway show, sung by adult Simba as he pines for his father, questioning why this tragedy has happened, remembering how Mufasa said he would always be there to look out for him. The song is full of emotion, and I cannot listen to it without getting teary, so I don't know how I will be able to hold it together when I see the show in March.
Favourite lyric: 'I'm trying to hold on, just waiting to hear your voice, one word, just a word will do, to end this nightmare

Timebomb was one of my favorites of Tove Lo, and I almost had 90s Music on my countdown.

M.. m.. musical of the day? This just became my favourite Best Of list and you just became my favourite member.

"Endless Night" is such a beautifully tragic song.

No matter how many times I listen to it, I always find myself welling up a bit and really getting into the emotion of the song. It really added a whole new dimension to that situation and made my heart break EVEN MORE. Which I was fairly certain wasn't even possible since Mufasa's death was the most scarring moment of my childhood? lmao. Seriously though, beautiful song and I love how it comes to a optimistic ending with the big chorus and positive lyrics. The song isn't really exclusive to the show either, anyone could relate and get something out of the song, regardless if they know the story. Like, I've listened to the song and started crying just because of how relatable it actually was to something I was currently going through.

ugh, you're going to LOVE the show in March! I was fortunate enough to see it during the original run at Princess of Wales Theatre (hate living so far from Broadway) back in 2003, and was completely blown away by the production value and how incredibly well the story adapted to being on-stage. and the costumes! Lord, the costumes were like nothing I'd ever seen before.

This is like the first time I've seen someone on ATRL show an interest in musicals, so I'm kind of freaking out.

Also, Kerry Ellis' rendition of Let It Go is one of my favourites. She's really able to meet the power that song demands.
