Billboard updated Mariah Carey's U.S. SoundScan album sales (1991-2012). Take into account this number does not include Carey's debut album (1990) total sales or her BMG Music Club/Columbia House sales.

Since beginning his career on Nickelodeon, Nick Cannon has forged a successful (if sporadic) musical career, highlighted by his 2003 self-titled solo debut. However, the 31-year-old's sales cannot hold a candle to that of his 42-year-old wife, Mariah Carey, who has spent over two decades pushing the boundaries of mainstream R&B and looks to do so again with her upcoming studio effort. The happy couple has moved a combined 54 million copies -- 53.77 million of which were courtesy of Carey.

Carey has sold over 53.7 million albums in the United States of America, since 1991 - more than any other female artist. She is currently the 3rd best-selling act overall in the SoundScan era, behind Garth Brooks and The Beatles.
The Billboard article is confusing and misleading, joining the acts' solo sales with their groups' sales, though.
