I've noticed a trend with rappers like Fetty Wap, Dej Loaf, Future, and ILoveMakonnen, (and pretty much every rapper just mostly them) singing while they rap
It's gotten popular lately and I was trying to think where this could of originated. Then I remember this song.
Now don't drag me because I know this wasn't the first song to have the sing-rap format, but it was the first (of my knowledge) mainstream song to sound like this
Since most of y'all don't get the concept of sing-rapping. This is a few recently released songs that contain sing-rapping
Yes, but it goes back as far as Destiny's Child No No No (1997). It wasn't until Destiny's Child made it their signature sound is when the style became a staple.
No, not in the way that the rappers are doing it -- that's something different and more along the lines of what Bone Thugs and later Ja Rule used to do and T-Pain took a step forward with the autotuning element as well. But she absolutely did bring a different style of singing to the forefront with her hip hop influenced rhythmic singing that she introduced with DC. That ended up being extremely influential in the way R&B/urban singers approached up tempo vocal delivery -- instead of melodically singing over hard beats like we once saw with Aaliyah, MJB etc, you started seeing singers singing much faster and following the beat like rappers, more choppy staccato phrasing etc.
