I'm sick and tired of living in my messy third world country, but after looking at the difficulty of legal immigration there's no chance in hell that I would ever get through.

Do I just go in on a travel visa, try to stay under the radar, and never leave? Is it really that easy?

This. I used to intern at a immigration law firm. This is not right but it is the best option because you'll day have a better chance at citizenship than if you come over completely illegal.
