FASTEST EVER 200,000 AWARD FOR POLYDOR RECORDS
Nielsen award second 200,000 plays award to the Polydor Records Radio Promotions Team for Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 Featuring Christina Aguilera
Maroon 5’s single featuring Christina Aguilera has this week been spun on UK radio 200,000 times garnering a Nielsen 200,000 plays award and becoming the fastest song to gain the accolade. “Moves Like Jagger” is only the second song to be presented with the 200,000 plays award following Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars”, which had its 200,000th spin on UK radio in May 2012.
This award from Nielsen recognises the cumulative plays of a song across all UK radio stations since release and the achievement of all involved in making the record a radio hit.
“Moves Like Jagger” received its first play on UK radio on 27th June 2011 and quickly sped to the 200,000 plays award, hitting 100,000 plays in January 2012. It has received the most support from Smash Hits, The Hits, Heart Cornwall, Kiss and Key 103 radio stations.
The song was also a massive radio hit across Europe and topped Nielsen’s Pan-European Airplay Chart for 8 weeks.
The Nielsen Music Airplay Awards were introduced in 2005 to recognise the success of radio plugging campaigns within the music industry. Levels of certification start with the ‘Impact Award’ for 5,000 plays on UK radio within 8 weeks before release. Recognition is also given to songs which reach 10,000, 30,000, 100,000 and now 200,000 plays. All UK radio plays across Nielsen’s extensive panel of 258 UK stations, since January 2000, are included to calculate the awards.
The first song to receive the 100,000 plays award was ‘Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)’ by Spiller in 2005.
Helena Kosinski and Debbieanne O’Donovan presented the award to the Polydor Radio Promotions Team.
