Another Terror Plot in Canada STOPPED!
Victoria man and woman charged in terrorist plot at B.C. legislature on Canada Day
Quote:
A Victoria man and woman have been charged with terrorism after a suspicious package was left at the B.C. legislature on Canada Day.
John Stewart Nuttall and Amanda Marie Korody are charged with knowingly facilitating a terrorist activity, possession of an explosive substance and conspiring to commit and indictable offence. They were to appear in Surrey provincial court this morning.
Victoria lawyer Tom Morino said an RCMP investigation has been going for a long time.
He was contacted yesterday by Nuttall, who is in custody in RCMP cells in Surrey.
The RCMP is set to announce details this morning of the foiled terrorist plot that involves suspicious packages left at the B.C. legislature.
Mounties have scheduled a press conference at their Surrey headquarters this morning to announce details of arrests made in relation to "Project Souvenir."
The national security investigation involves the Integrated National Security Enforcement Teams (INSETS) in B.C. led by the RCMP, as well as the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA), and law enforcement at the federal, provincial, municipal levels.
Premier Christy Clark will speak to the media outside the legislative building after the RCMP press conference.
It's unknown when the packages were found in the building, which houses the B.C. government ministers, premier and Opposition MLAs. Security officials at the legislature offered no comment Tuesday until the RCMP had made its public statements. The Victoria Police Department also had no comment until the RCMP event.
In addition to being the working capital building, the legislature is a popular destination for tourists and visitors to the city.
Canada Day celebrations in Victoria's inner harbour on Monday brought more than 40,000 people into the city's downtown core and included concerts on the front lawn of the legislature.

Thankfully they were stopped before they could cause any harm.
