Do you believe that in the institution of marriage the man should be the head of the family?

I am 100% for women having their own careers, being CEO's and industry bosses but when it comes to marriage I think the man should be the head, and leader of the family. A big reason so many marriages fail today is because many women are trying to take the place of a man, when two heads of power exist in marriage they constanfly butt and it doesnt work. Both spouses should respect one another, and hold highly each others opinions, however on major decisions I believe the woman should take the stance of her husband and support him. In the bible it's clearly stated, and in real life it works, marriages like these where women are subservient tend to be more successful. Also men find a submissive woman FAR more attractive than an assertive one , as countless surveys have proven.

Nope... I know someone who is stay at home dad and the mom is the one working and they dont have any problem at all.

Yeah. I guess marriages work better that way. But I don't know if that's better. My mom and dad got a divorce after my mom started to work and stopped saying yes to whatever my dad said.

Survey evidence is not always accurate but ok. cite some of these "countless" surveys then and lets discuss their results.

Why don't we stop thinking about marriages here and start thinking about the people involved with them.

Saying that a woman should take the stance of her husband on major decisions is ridiculous. So if she is to disagree, she shouldn't speak up and and voice it? The woman deserves to be happy in the relationship too. Considering that many of the "major" decisions are going to have the biggest impact on their lives, they deserve to take their own stance. Why, in quite a few of these decisions, I'd say the woman has more knowledge on the issue than the man.

And in regards to subservient relationships, were the women who were in them actually happy with their marriage? Were they really free? Sure, the marriage stays together.. but if this is going to come at the expense of the happiness and freedom of the woman, then it's ultimately pointless; as they won't be able to speak up as, due to the nature of their marriage, they aren't really given a chance to.

Sorry but your argument is entirely backward. The breakdown of marriages is mainly the fault of men who don't take care of their responsibilities rather than woman who choose to work. Personally I do believe that the woman shouldn't try and take control all the time BUT when the man doesn't step up and do what he has to, then the woman always has to take care of business. Men need to get their act together and actually support their families instead of relying on the woman to help out with everything.

yes and no? like, men should be the head of the house but marriage should also be a team effort. the man can't just do what he wants, that goes against the point of marriage. i might be the head of the house, but in order to make it work i have to work with my wife, we have to make big decisions together, we have to understand each other's priorities and limitations. the main problem with marriages today is that people don't want to do that, they want to be married but they don't want to make the commitment to share a life with someone else like that or rely on someone else to help them get through things.

being married means you depend on another person for romantic and emotional needs and you work with them and compromise with them because you love and care about them enough to not put yourself first. this argument can be held against men, just because you're the head of the house doesn't mean you control your wife or children, it means they're your responsibility. if anything being "the man of the house" is supposed to add more pressure, not more dominance, and its purpose has been diluted and right-winged to the point where now it just means you are the big ruler over your family when that's not what God intended for that mean.

i think the point of "submissive" marriages has been overabused through the years into being what it is now. marriage isn't about being above anyone, you're supposed to be equals. however, the husband and wife, father and mother, do have specific roles in a marriage. despite that it still doesn't mean anyone is higher or lower.

I think it's more simple than that. Countries that have legal divorce and where getting divorced is easier and not stigmatized against tend to have high divorce rates.

I think the problem with marriage is that some people don't really think about what they are getting into, sometimes relationships don't last, sometimes people are wrong for each other. That doesn't mean marriage is wrong but we pressure people into it from such a young age socially.
