--- The Top 100 Songs are available on the previous page ---
#20 • Holly Herndon
A refreshing breath of art-pop, Holly Herndon flew onto the scene this year with her debut album, Platform, which makes a Top 20 appearance in my album chart this year. An artist of audio and visual expertise, Herndon made a splash for me and many others this year with her unique, post-Internet glitch-pop just left of a PC Music artist.
#19 • Tink
One of the most exciting up-and-coming female rappers, Tink began to test the waters of mainstream this year to some moderate success under the wing of pioneer, Timbaland. Although she underwhelmed low-key and I wanted an album this year, she's on her way and has fully established herself on my radar.
#18 • The Weeknd
I definitely slept on Abel until this year which I'm not very proud of, but his Top 40 music really got me on board. I'm going to need to delve deeper into his discography in 2016.
#17 • Tinashe
Even when she's not really doing much, Tinashe remains an exciting, fresh new artist for me and I'm endlessly ready to see what she does next and always love the products she comes out with. 2016 will likely see an even higher rank for her from me.
#16 • Kacey Musgraves
Although bonding over this lady with my mom may be the primary reason I love her so, it's so refreshing to have found a voice in country that's not only open to any music listener, but pushing the boundaries in the genre she's in. It's sad that she doesn't get the attention she truly deserves, but I'll always root for her.
#15 • Vanessa Carlton
I've been following this woman for over half of my life now. I purchased her fifth album in November at the same time my roommates and I were robbed, and I now own her discography. There's something about her stylistic choices that will always keep me on board with her music: the traditional instrumentation, silky voice and soft aesthetic she has settled on has made my affinity for her stay steady through all these years.
#14 • A G Cook
A main mastermind behind the squelchy exaggerative pop that is PC Music, a lot of productions from this man have guided my 2015.
#13 • Ciara
Although this year was a bit disappointing to be a Ciara fan and she didn't necessarily reach a career high, I always get my life from what she decides to put out. Also, her visuals (although there were only 2 videos, eek) were pretty excellent. But let's be honest: an R&B Ciara is the right Ciara.
#12 • Kendrick Lamar
This man is a beast. There's really not much to say.
#11 • Tame Impala
Or, more precisely, Kevin Parker. The executed vision and sensory output from this project never ceases to impress me and reel me in, and nothing changed with their third album released this year.
#10 • V V Brown
I'm always confused as to how the world has managed to let this woman completely fly under the radar. Following up to 2013's Samson and Delilah, her comeback this year has been nothing less than remarkable, and I'm constantly reminded why she is a great woman with great talent.
#9 • Charli XCX
I love this girl. She's always so cute and effective. Although it's not like everything she touches turns to gold, per se, (see: Drop That Kitty, Hand In The Fire) she gets it right so often and even her failures are just plain fun and worth it. Can't wait to see what she pulls out of her hat in 2016.
#8 • Neon Indian
I met this guy this year! Not only did he put on a great show, but released the best album of his career this year. And he's superbly kind (he complimented my shirt... omg!) and a super great musician. Love this one.
#7 • FKA twigs
The output from this woman is always grandiose, stunning and next-level. I can't even pretend I'm not super impressed by everything she does. An artist that tops themselves with each new release is one to stay on board with.
#6 • Arca
Honestly, Arca can get a bit extra for me. It's for that reason that I love him so much. The raw, discomforting yet somehow soul-touching art and image he surrounds himself with are what makes him a one of a kind artist, and also one of the most exciting producers of our generation.
#5 • M.I.A.
Not only is M.I.A. one of my favorite artists of all time, she is one of my favorite people of all time. She has a hilarious demeanor but it's also very important. She put people on a map that have never seen a map, to quote the woman herself. She'll be pissing off people who take life too seriously for years to come.
#4 • Grimes
I will never forgive myself for taking until 2015 to let myself fully enjoy Grimes. I spent so much time hating on her for reasons that now seem idiotic to me, but I'm glad I finally came around and realize the genius of Claire Boucher and her empire, and I plan on standing by that for a long time now that I've got it.
#3 • Björk
This year just reconfirmed how much I'm in love with Björk and the incredible work she puts into the world. It also reconfirmed it with the rest of the world, too.
#2 • Sophie
Sophie makes music that is essentially everything I want out of music: it can be fun but also somber, envelope-pushing and, yes, electronica. This man (yes, Sophie is a man) is not only a visionary but a one-time artist. And that's how you get a collabo with Madonna with barely an EP's worth of music officially released, folks.
#1 • Rihanna
Rihanna is pop music royalty. She really can do no wrong. It's taken awhile, but she's finally found out what it is she wants from her career and music. From when I purchased A Girl Like Me at age 10, I always knew there was something seriously right about this girl. There is no doubt that this beautiful soul is about to release the best album of her career with ANTi: watch this space.
