It seems like just about everyone has a grudge against Billboard's hot 100. I never actually seen the reason for the hate, actually I find it VERY selfish and not needed. The following quotes were just made in the ITunes dissusion thread that have lead me to open this disscusiion:

Over the recent years there have been various artist that have gone to number one on Billboard's hot 100 that have been strongly disliked by people at ATRL. in 2006 D4L's "Laffy Taffy" started the trend, then later that year followed Akon & Snoop dogg's "I Wanna Love You". Both were strongly bashed her at ATRL. 2007 had to be the biggest year for the "Ringtone Rapper", in came Mims, Sean Kingston, T-pain, and the most memorable SOULJA BOY TELL EM'. These artist were very hated through out this ATRL server, called various names and were wished to flopism. Now in 2008 the trend continues for another year with even bigger singles from these "Ringtone Rappers". There's only 5 weeks that a "Ringtone Rapper" or "Club Anthem" hasn't been number and those five weeks belong to Mariah Carey and Leona Lewis who were also hated on by ATRL. Usher, Flo Rida, and the current number one Lil Wayne "Lollipop" have all been number one the other weeks.

What I wanna ask is, what makes people say that america has no taste? Is that from your personal view because then it would mean you have no taste because it would be America VS. ATRL and who would win that battle, i'm not gonna even ellaborate but yeah, this topic really irks my nerves so I just wanted to state some things.

People kinda need to get over it. I believe the Hot 100 applies to a specific audience, and that audience doesn't belong here. It is heavily based on radio, and I'm sorry, but you will hardly find a #1 single that is purely pop. The biggest hits have pop, urban, and rhythmic appeal and the only people who can have those hits are rap and R&B stars, like Lil Wayne, Flo Rida, Usher, etc.

Because of that, people often find "trashy" songs on top. Radio likes to play songs that people can get drunk to, party with, dance to, etc.

I love and agree with the above two posts <3.

It's kinda annoying Lollipop hit #1 twice. So unfair for such song as No Air, It only peaked at #3 (as I remember).
But billboard did their best, they compile the chart basing on airplays, physical cd sales, digital downloads and so on ... which is sufficient enough, I think.

Taking a look at this list there is only pure pop song for this year and that's Bleeding Love the rest of these songs get pop radio play and urban radio play

Black and urban music dominates United states. I like T-pain , Lil wayne, Flo rida, Chris brown , etc and I'm from Argentina where this artist are nobodies. I love music and i don't make any difference.

A lot of it is just hyperbole, and the fact that these songs tend to be at the top for weeks, sometimes even months, at a time, so they get overplayed and they prevent other songs more popular to ATRL from hitting #1 (Don't Stop The Music is a great example of this).

Exactly. And in my opinion black music dominates the US charts because black people make the best music now of days period.

I hate when people here bash t-pain saying that he can't sing and all kind of stuff. T-pain can sing and he makes great music for me and for other people.

No. Black artists tend to dominate the charts because they have urban and rhythmic airplay support.

He uses an auto tuner.

And so what? It's his style. He is doing great music. If you don't like its your problem.

It's just my opinion and I believe if it wasn't for African American artists there would no music period.

But to say he can SING is wrong on so many levels.

I knew someone would say this. It's because URBAN not BLACK music it the most popular among everyone. Rhythmic radio isn't excactly fair but Pop aritist do get supported. Leona is getting strong airplay and Fergie does as well. Even Miley Cyrus got good airplay at Rhythmic. There isn't much pure pop music left in the idustry.

Becoz I don't think Low, Lollipop and Bleeding Love are good enough to enjoy several weeks @ #1
