I'm not even sure they are anymore. Straight girls can get away with kissing each other in public without any issues and lesbians typically aren't the topic of homosexual slurs, but when it comes down to it, lesbians couples don't really seem any more accepted to me.
I hate to say this, but our world is still dominated by males. Most men find lesbians tolerable or even sexually appealing, whereas homosexual males repel them.
But it's not like straight people who 'accept' lesbians but don't accept gays take the lesbians seriously. If they did, they'd stop trying for a threesome with two lesbians.
So it's really not acceptance for gays OR lesbians.
Because the straight guys who are still amazed by things like fire and the wheel, think that lesbian sex somehow is included within the realm of possibilities of their potential encounters.
