Jennifer Lopez producing New ABC Show
New American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez is heaping more on her plate: The actress/singer is set to produce a new hour-long dramedy for ABC that will “center on three branches of an extended Los Angeles family — as told through the eyes of their three Latina nannies,” according to Variety. Lopez and her producing partner Simon Fields are joining with Friends and Big Love writer Alexa Junge for the still-untitled project.
ABC’s pretty full of family-centric shows these days: Modern Family, No Ordinary Family, Brothers & Sisters, The Middle, Better With You, maybe even Cougar Town. Lopez’s producing record isn’t hugely encouraging — Dancelife, South Beach — and this isn’t the first time she and Junge have worked on a Latina nannie-based project: In 2007, Ayuda stalled out at Showtime. Still, it’d be nice to see other kinds of stories told on television. You know, ones about people who aren’t rich and white.
