Carly Rae Jepsen has two songs in Japan's top 3
Carly Rae Jepsen must be Japan's new fave girl. While the collaboration with Owl City secures the 2nd position (2-2) on Billboard's Japan Hot 100 for another week, "Call Me Maybe" finally reaches the top 3 (8-3). Furthermore, "Good Time" is currently the most-played track in Japan (#1 on the Hot Top Airplay chart). Jepsen also owns the first two spots on the Digital & Overseas chart.
Billboard Japan
*This has to be a record. I really don't remember seeing a Western singer with two songs on Billboard Japan Hot 100's top 3. This lady is slaying.

I don't know where Billboard get their numbers, but Oricon (THE reference in Japan sales) disagree
http://www.oricon.co.jp/rank/js/w/2012-10-08/more/1/
The last time a western female went top10 there was last year with Born This Way (and we all know how popular Gaga is in Japan), that didn't happen since 1999. I don't think Carly, who's still "new" can have TWO songs in their top10 (Oricon even made an article about that, cause it was so exceptional )
But if it's true, congrats

Not this again! Oricon only counts physical singles sales. And only local acts release CD singles nowadays. That chart is not a good indicator of what is popular over there, to be honest. Billboard's chart methodology (airplay + digital sales) is better.

Isn't Itunes irrelevant over there ? (almost all Kat Deluna singles went top10 on it).
There must be a reason if Oricon (THE reference) doesn't count digital single sales...

So do we think Japanese people still live under a rock? Japan is the world's second largest digital music market. In 2008, a Japanese single released by Thelma Aoyama made the IFPI's Top 10 Global Digital Singles list with over 8.2 million downloads sold. CD singles (only) don't show you who is popular in Japan, anymore.

It's not the official chart.
H-I-M is right, iTunes ain't relevant there.

An article on Japan Times said that Japan's digital market shrunk by 20% from 2010 -> 2011. That is MASSIVE! Even the physical albums market hasn't dropped by that much. Where everywhere else in the world the digital market is still growing or even exploding, in Japan it's already receding. And there's nothing to take its place...

Like I said, Oricon(sus) doesn't count digital sales and there must be a reason

Since when is Billboard unnoficial? That is such an embarrasing comment. So Japanese only use iTunes???? LMAO! Read my comment below and sit down.

However, The RIAJ Digital Track Chart uses data from 14 sources! At first, the data was sourced from five providers: Dwango, Mora, Mu-Mo, music.jp and ecochoku. On February 19, 2010, RIAJ announced that the data became the more expanded data sourced from 14 providers (new nine providers included the Oricon Me). Oricon is a flop, then. Because Japan is the world's 2nd largest digital market. The times have changed.

I can't at ATRLers.
Now Carly is slaying Japan and Billboard (airplay and digital data) suddenly became UNNOFICIAL.

Japan might be the second biggest digital market, but not only because of iTunes.

No, it has a 12% market share. Not huge, but still significant in such a crowded marketplace, as it is indicative of other legal paid download sites.
For comparison, iTunes has a 32% marketshare in the US, and 56% in the UK.
