Welcome.
Welcome, everyone, to the very first American Horror Story tournament here on ATRL. With Gaga on Hotel crashing this cult site every Wednesday, and with Halloween right around the corner, the time for horror is now. And we, the judges, expect a lot of it.
So how does the competition work? What are we trying to do?
I like to think of it like an alternative for Platinum Hit. Each contestant will pick their own season, and each round they will have to write a short episode, and they will be judged and averaged by the five judges.
There is no eliminations, but there is a leaderboard and a winner at the end.
Do I have to watch all the seasons of American Horror Story to join?
You don't necessarily have to be a hardcore AHS fan to join, but it will certainly help to create the essence of mystery, drama and horror you're trying to emulate. But like I said, it isn't necessary. The judges will be judging your use of the round concepts, your season's plot, and your character arcs.
What will each round entail?
Each round is focused either on content or craft. Content mainly refers to the elements of horror, and classical horror tropes that you will have to incorporate into your episode. Other rounds will focus on craft and how your content is structured. This mainly refers to how your plot is structured and how you will keep the readers on the edge of their seats.
How do I join?
To join, simply post below (or PM Me, I dont really care tbh). Your application to join should include your name, and the theme of your season, and any other information you deem relevant.
Remember, themes can only be used once. That means if someone already picked it or its already been done on TV, then you need to pick a new one. There's a limited number of topics and as such there is a limited number of members that can join.
Also, remember though, that not all themes of American Horror Story are inherently "scary". Murder House was just an old house at the beginning of the season, and by the end of the season it was an entity within itself. Not everything scary seems scary at first glance, Keep that in mind,
RIDER. WESLEYWALRUS. URBAN.
....and me, of course.
1. No using themes twice. That means you can't use Asylums, Witches, Hotels, etc. or anything someone else has picked. Remember, horror is everywhere, and you can make any theme scary.
2. No plagiarism, obviously. It's cute to reference other seasons of American Horror Story though. You'll def get some extra points from me.
3. There are no eliminations. You will still be scored, though, so it's best to give your all. It's much easier to hold a position in a leader board than to climb up the leaderboard.
4.. Hints are given each round! Don't ask for them, they'll just come. I'll put the page #s in the title to make it easier for y'all though.
5. Have fun! This isn't that serious, it's just a game on ATRL. Maybe your season will be better written than Murder House, or maybe it will come out a jumbled mess like Freakshow. Either way you'll learn a lot about creative writing, AHS, and maybe even yourself.
