Introduction
I had a fantastic time running the first season of Persistence last fall, and I am excited to say that it is back for another season! I knew as soon as Season 1 ended that I wanted to host this game again and make it even better. Persistence was my first experience hosting a game on ATRL, and I think it couldn't have gone much better. I'm confident that Season 2 will be even more competitive and even more fun than the inaugural season.
Challenges
Persistence is a challenge-based game consisting of live daily challenges. Most challenges will take place in the afternoon or evening EDT, although weekend challenges are often in the morning. Recurring challenge themes include music charts and puzzles, but the challenges are diverse in both nature and difficulty. The first few people to complete each challenge are awarded points based on the difficulty of the challenge (although the final 10 challenges will again award the same point prizes). A sample challenge might award points to the first five people to complete it in the following manner:
Quote:
1st = 50 points
2nd = 35 points
3rd = 20 points
4th = 13 points
5th = 7 points

As with last season, there will be a leaderboard that I will update and post following the conclusion of every round. Here's an example leaderboard from last season:
The game consists of two stages- the regular season and the playoffs. The regular season consists of 60 challenges, while the playoffs work as follows:
Quote:
There will be (x-1) playoff challenges PER PLAYOFF ROUND, where x is the amount of people that are still in the game.
In the first challenge, the winner of the challenge is immune for that round. In the next challenge, everyone but the person who is immune takes part, and the winner of that then becomes immune. This continues until a challenge between only two people takes place; the first person to complete the challenge out of those two survives.
And then the process starts over again and repeats until we only have 2 people left, at which point it is time for the final.

8 people made the playoffs last season, and barring a significantly larger amount of active participants, that number will remain the same for this season. The winner of the regular season is NOT necessarily the winner of the game; the winner of the playoffs is. Thus, the regular season winner might end up being eliminated in the playoffs. However, the regular season winner is still recognized (analogous to a sports team winning their division but not the championship).
If you're having trouble understanding this, I recommend clicking
here and reading through last season's playoffs.
Bonuses
Bonuses return this season, but they will be earned in a different manner. They will also be somewhat more scarce. In the inaugural season, bonuses were earned by being one of the first to successfully complete a challenge. This season, some challenges will have "bonus components" where the first few people to complete the component along with the rest of the challenge win the bonus. However, completion of the component is not required to complete the challenge, so players will have to decide whether going after the bonus is worth their time or if they want to try to secure a large points haul.
A bonus will go unclaimed if no one submits the challenge along with its bonus component within ten minutes of the last competitor to receive points.
Three bonuses return from last season. Bonuses are used by sending me a private message before the challenge begins.
Doubler
This bonus allows you to double your points for a challenge. For example, if the 3rd place finisher for a certain challenge was to receive 10 points, but you used a Doubler before the challenge and finished in 3rd, you would receive 20 points. The Doubler has no effect if you lose or don't earn points that round.
Tripler
Similar to the Doubler, this bonus allows you to triple your points for a challenge.
Novice Pass
This bonus allows you to receive an easier challenge.

I can't wait for another great competition!
