All credit goes to Athens.
Welcome to my Year-End countdown!
This is my first and hopefully not last of my Best Of...
I've been shading some of your faves for too long this year and come to find out that more than half of them MIGHT appear on my countdown. The question is.. who?
It's been a long time since I've heard new music from The Prince of Pop. I've done my best to compile a list of my favorite singles from 2010 based on my taste, how long it took for me to like the songs, and their plays on itunes. My list will contain pop, r&b, hip-hop, alternative -- some mainstream, some flops, some nobodies -- and all that extra ****.
Hope you enjoy.

Unfortunately we're being cut off most of December so that the Year-End countdowns can premiere. This means there was only a few songs I could squeeze in and many that didn't make the cut. But with time, in 2011 the following singles & artists below will potentially make their debut on next year's C/D.
Better luck next time...
P!nk
20. Trey Songz, Can't Be Friends
"Can't Be Friends" is a soulful and romantic record. Trey Songz is trying to have a balance between his overly sex crazed songs and his romantic/heartbreak tunes. This record is powerful to those that know what he's going through. You can fall for some one so bad that being friends isn't even possible.
19. One Republic, Secrets
"Secrets” is musically unique and I'm glad I didn't miss out on it before the year wrapped up. The cello used in this song is genius.
18. Jason Derulo, What If
…The latest single off of his self-title album. Unlike his previous, he's not using autotune as much. This track is more laid back and meaningful compared to his other records. (Maybe that's why this one is less successful?)
Okay, enough, it's a nice ballad.
17. Christina Perri, Jar Of Hearts
Perri is ready to blow up. All year I had ignored this single until now. 'Who did I think I was?" It's one of the best ballads this year. But it just might have to wait until next year to premiere here.
16. Nicki Minaj, Right Thru Me
I love when Nicki is a goof-ball but this track right here is some serious business. Finally she went back to rapping hard-core-- and about something that people can relate to (or even understand). But its just too bad "Right Thru Me" didn't make the cut for this Year-end.
Keri Hilson
15. Jesse MCcartney, Shake
I'm getting a new image from Jesse as the years go by and I'm actually not mad. Jesse has been writing hits for others, so hopefully in 2011 with "Shake" and other singles to come he will be getting the shine that he use to get in the early-mid 00's.
14. Keri Hilson, Pretty Girl Rock
The raunchiness of "The Way You Love (****) Me" made me done with this bitch. But the more I hear the cute & sweet, pretty girl anthem, "Pretty Girl Rock" I might just give her a second chance... next year. I'm really starting to like this song a lot even though I am not a girl.
13. Chris Brown, No ********
Off of his 2009 mixture "In My Zone", "No ********" has been becoming one of my favorite R&B songs over the month. Even though it will be at least two years late I have no issue with putting this song on my 2011 countdown. Let's just hope it doesn't get old by then.
12. P!nk, Raise Your Glass
P!nk is back and ready to take over a bit for this Greatest Hits (So Far) album, and she has plenty of them to come. This is just a silly party anthem, but its great.
11. Hey Monday, I Don't Wanna Dance
I was fortunate to come across Hey Monday on the radio last year with "How You Love Me Now" which soon became a favorite. This is a chick movement and the lyrics speaks for itself "--you blew your chance, you'll never take me home".
|
Christina Perri
10. Linkin Park, Waiting For The End
I love how Linkin part is competing against themselves, trying to set themselves apart from, well, themselves. The reggae-style verses is a showcase of that.
09. Ke$ha, We R Who We R
Ke$ha has been putting out great fun & party pop records this year. Its unfortunate that "We R Who We R" came so late that it will not make it to my countdown. It's humorous but has a great message behind it. I'm sure I'll love it up until 2011.
08. Katy Perry, Firework
Possibly better than her other singles from "Teenage Dream", "Firework" is catchy and fun but it has inspirational lyrics. This is like the 2010 (generic) version of "Beautiful". It uplifts a persons self-esteem.
07. Fantasia, I'm Doin' Me
'I'm doing' me, this time around' / 'I won't let your drama bring me down'.
It’s been a rough year for Fantasia. Hopefully when her personal life gets out of the media she'll keep on moving in 2011. "I'm Doin' Me" is becoming a favorite.
06. Diddy-Dirty Money, I'm Coming Home
I am so impressed by Diddy-Dirty Money, every single they've had off of "Last Train to Paris" has been excellent. Their album is actually great as well. "I'm Coming Home" is an anthem in the making, no need for a popular female artist to help a song become a hit when we've got the vocals of Dawn (who needs to go solo) & Estelle--- I mean Kaleena (sp?). Alex Da Kid did it again.
Jesse Mccartney
05. Kanye West Featuring Rick Ross, Jay-Z & Nicki Minaj, Monster
Four of the most popular rappers in 2010 went off and made a "Monster" track! Three of which will make an appearance on my Countdown
with an exception of Kanye
. "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" has other bangers that have taken me and I hope they're singles.
04. The Script, For The First Time
The Script never fails to put out music with substance that also makes you want to sing along. When this song hits the US in 2011 I am sure it will explode and be on the radio just as much as "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" & "Breakeven".
03. Rihanna, Only Girl (In The World)
Could not find anything I liked about "Only Girl (In The World)" at first few listens, but now later in the year It has been a tune that has grown on me a lot. I actually think this could be one of Rihanna's best singles ever. As much as I get warnings for trolling in these Rihanna threads. Rihanna will probably make the MOST appearances in my countdown
02. Kings Of Leon, Radioactive
Although its lyrics are limited, chorus is repetitive, and not as strong as their other singles... I can't help but to sing a long to the chorus "Drink the water where you came from."
I think Kings of Leon executes well to get their point across.
01. Bruno Mars, Grenade
Bruno is doing his thing in 2010 and I feel like "Grenade" will be even bigger than "Just The Way You Are". He's giving me that radio-friendly pop, yet giving me soul on this track.

I agree, Radioactive is not as good as the songs off "Only by the Night".
Secrets, Raise Your Glass and Only Girl didn't make it.

Segment 1: As We Enter...
I will now be revealing the Bottom 50 at random.
That way we can get some suspense in here.
Nas & Damian Marley, As We Enter
And what a great way to enter the countdown w/ Junior Gong & Nasir as they school you with knowledge (before you get lost in this electro-pop game.)
The two take turns annihilating this damn near 2min. track. The beat gets me hyped and the flute used in this song is epic. I regret not listening to this song that much.
"As We Enter" sits @ #100.
Muse, Neutron Star Collusion (Love Is Forever)
I am by no means a Twilight fan (sorry), but this song is nice work. Weird, but the song also frightens me in a way. Matthew Bellamy has an incredibly distinct voice, and he always gives passion out of each song he sings.
"Love Is Forever" sits @ #63.
Cee-lo, F*ck You

For people who thought that Cee Lo couldn't get a hit after "Crazy", that's just nonsense. "**** You" is almost perfection. It has humor, its refreshing and a 60s Motown vibe, but still works for today's music.
"**** You" sits @ #68.
Kris Allen, Live Like We’re Dying
I may make fun of Kris & Archie but I can't deny that I actually liked this song. I was playing it back in 09' when it first came out, but soon lost interest in early 10'. But it still kept me interested enough to make the countdown. It's catchy and kind of energetic.
"Live Like We're Dying" sits @ #74.
| Justin Bieber Featuring Ludacris, Baby
Stop lying. I liked this song and you liked it too. At first I thought Ludacris lost his mind collaborating with Bieber, but it worked out nice. It's a catchy ass tune. I sing to it and you will not judge me.
"Baby" sits @ #75.
Travie McCoy Featuring Bruno Mars, Billionaire
This was my **** when it first came out. But it grew on me fast and fell off even faster. Still, it's a great song (just overatted) and I consider it an anthem for everyone who wants to be something.
"Billionaire" sits @ #67.
Kelly Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted
Great album opener and great single. Love how it flows nice and slow within the verses but builds up to that poprock Kelly we know during the chorus.
"AlI Ever Wanted" sits @ #86.
Michael Bublé, Haven't Met You Yet
This isn't my kind of music so this is another guilty pleasure of mines. But this song might make me catch an eye out for AC music. This song is just a great song to wake up to, honestly.
"Haven't Met You Yet" sits @ #82.
