I think things would be different, and I don't think anyone could really top him musically or even publicly. Nobody has gone through as much media and tabloid ******** than he has. Of course there's Britney, but she still doesn't come close.
The pop scene as we know it would not exist. Michael inspired a huge majority of the pop artists that have been successful and he always pushed the limits in his career when it came to his videos and on stage presence. So many artists look up to him and try to emulate what he did. Anyone who says he had little effect is just plain ignorant.

It's the same with females who are inspired by Madonna, that doesn't mean that they are clones, they are just inspired by their idol nothing wrong with that.
Um, a lot more would be different. Most of today's artists pull from Michael. They would have just pulled from somewhere else. Michael wasn't some disposable, replaceable artist like Al. B Sure!. Most of what we know today is basically him. You could deny that nothing would be different, but that's just foolish.
