SWIFT'S PERFECT STORM: The impending Frankenstorm on the East Coast apparently has had little effect on weekend music buyers as early retail reports have Taylor Swift's monster new album Red on target to hit our midweek 1.15-1.25 million mark and meeting or exceeding projections at several key accounts. In addition, Swift will set the record for largest, non-99-cent-sale-priced digital album, besting the 420k digital first week most recently set by Mumford & Sons' Babel. Only Lady Gaga's Born This Way has sold more digital albums in the first week of release, though two-thirds of its 660k+ came from Amazon's game-changing 99-cent sale. (10/29a)

NEXT WEEK'S TOP 15: A big part of our job, these days, is coming up with new ways to think about how many records Taylor Swift is selling. So grok this: This week, Big Machine's big Red monster will likely sell more than the rest of the Top 50 albums combined. It may, in fact, have the biggest opening since 2005, when 50 Cent's The Massacre lived up to its name with a 1.14m bow. It's also due for the second-largest first week ever for a female artist, trailing only Britney Spears' massive "Oops!...I Did It Again," which opened with 1.319m. Here's how the field looks with the weekend looming:
* Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 1.15-1.25m
* Kendrick Lamar (Aftermath/Interscope) 235-245k
Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 135-145k
Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 55-60k
* Tony Bennett (Columbia) 30-35k
P!nk (RCA) 25-30k
Brandy (RCA) 21-24k
* Stone Sour (Roadrunner) 21-24k
* Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 19-22k
Little Big Town (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 19-22k
Scotty McCreery (Mercury Nashville/19/Interscope) 19-22k
Adele (XL/Columbia) 19-22k
* Gary Clark, Jr. (Warner Bros.) 18k-21k
Miguel (RCA) 18-21k
* Swedish House Mafia (Astralwerks) 17-20k
* Debuts
We'll be back with more ways to understand how huge Red is as soon as possible. (10/25p)

RED TIDE: Taylor Swift's Red now looks solidly north of 1 million in first-week sales, with a chance to possibly top Lady Gaga's 1.1 million-selling debut for Born This Way in May 2011. But that album, of course, included more than 400k in 99-cent sales from Amazon MP3. How about that, boys and girls?! Meanwhile, Interscope's Kendrick Lamar is also having a big first week, with his album now looking like it will break 200k. (10/23p)

TAYLOR’S SWIFT RESPONSE: Indications are that Taylor Swift’s Big Machine album, Red, officially available today, has a million copies in its sight, based on early retail reads. Can the country-pop diva actually get there? If she does, it will be the first time in a decade that an artist has had consecutive million-selling debut weeks, since the days of *NSYNC, Eminem and Backstreet Boys. Swift currently boasts approximately half of the iTunes top singles, due to the fact the online retailer's “Complete My Album” function was down for the first 15 hours that the album was available, which might account for the large number of track sales as consumers may have opted to buy the songs a la carte. The Target version of the album contains six additional songs, three live and three new studio tracks.Stay tuned as we gather more information. (10/22p)
