In advance anticipation of the Album Rate, where it will undoubtedly be the first single to get the boot.
Yes, it sounds like Express Yourself. When Gaga cried and talked about the way the chords reminded her of old disco, I rolled my eyes quite vigorously.
But I never stopped listening. Two nights ago, I realized - they do! This song is as if Sylvester, Patrick Hernandez and Dan Hartman had formed some sort of gay man supergroup in the 70s.
So, can we revisit this song? It's not as bad as you think; on the contrary, it's quite good.
I ****ing hated the song when it premiered. I hated the song so much and thought that Judas was a million times better. And, I still prefer Judas over Born This Way.
But when the album was released and I realized how diverse the record was, I began to take a liking to the title track more and more because I realized how different it was from the others.
Pretty close to my least favorite song off the album. It just has one too many things wrong with it:
1. Too similar to Express Yourself
2. "Chola descent"
3. Some of the synths I am just not here for.
The message of it, and the fact that there was a song at #1 for 6 weeks that literally said "It's okay to be gay, bi, straight, lesbian, and transgendered" makes it hard for me to hate it though.
^ well, i believe most people on this board jump on the Express Yourself bandwagon ...
i doubt most of the people heard the similarities or even worse, know Express Yourself before ..
people just gonna downgrade an artist's overwhelming success, just like people on this board tries to downgrade success of Katy Perry's singles.
Still not feelin' it. There are far more poignant and powerful songs like "Beautiful" -- if you can't top that, then don't even bother. I just think lyrically, the song is cliche and the production is wonky. It would have made a more powerful ballad.
The song is special to me because of the fact that a gay anthem smashed worldwide it was just such a huge step for our world and that's why I love the song so much... Plus the lyrics are great except I must agree that chola descent part lol.. And the production at first sounded messy to me but it grew on me.. I love it now
