#1 for 6 weeks doesn't count as a gigantic hit?

Obviously not much considering the success of FAME

This doesn't even warrant a response. Born This Way alone was a bigger hit song than most songs will ever be.

I hate to admit it, but it's true. Gaga did damage her brand. In 2008-2010, Gaga was seen as "cool" and "edgy," she was pretty polarising anyway but BTW took that to a whole other level. I agree with the part about her lack of recurrent airplay from BTW singles, although I can't help but state that her brand can't have faced major damage judging by the fact that the album still sold well, her touring power increased and her perfume was huge.

Very interesting. Could her first week sales end up lower than some people think?

I think it's too early to tell the effect BTW had on her brand - all we know right now is that a number of the singles tanked or were handled poorly/rushed, but the album sold incredibly well and her tour was very successful, despite its early cancellation due to her injury. We'll have to see with ARTPOP if this interpretation of events is accurate, but I have the feeling any ill-will BTW raised (which I feel is largely exaggerated) will be forgotten if Gaga plays to her strengths and releases strong material that is able to at the very least remind the world what made her a pop force of nature in the first place.

Well Born This Way sold as much as Rolling In The Deep WW in 2011.. So how is one considered a mega smash hit and the other one doesnt ?

"Born This Way" was not a huge hit. Absolutely everything on that album (and the album itself) is completely forgotten. Most people don't even know it exists anymore. It all came and went within a year.

There's little to no recurrent airplay for any of the singles. And nothing memorable came from it. No good videos, no good performances, nothing.

It wouldn't surprise me if people think Gaga's last song was Alejandro or Telephone or something.

Because the latter continues to get massive airplay, continues to get bought on iTunes, continues to be covered weekly, and it got a massive amount of critical acclaim. RITD has sold 4-5 million since that year chart btw. BTW probably sold nothing since then.

BTW wasn't a gigantic hit, yet outsold most offerings from the others they praised for consistency?

Once again held to a higher standard than her peers.
