Ladies and not-so-gentlemen welcome to:
This year it's been plenty of good songs, despite the 2013 musical landscape's appearance, so many that from my initial idea of a little Top 50 for Singles, I had to expand it to a Top 200 to give all of the songs some justice. In the list are included songs and (mostly) singles released through Dec 3, 2012 to Dec 1, 2013 so don't get surprised when some of the biggest hits of 2013 will miss this (Thrift Shop, Can't Hold Us, Same Love, I Knew You Were Trouble., Radioactive, Sail, etc.). This is my only rule, I guess. I'll obviously focus on the Top 200 Singles of the year but I'm planning to do a list for albums and artists aside it, too, and maybe one for the worst tracks of the year.
I'll give you a taste of what's to come. I hope to see many of your comments, I'll obviously exchange the favour. LET'S START NOW!
P.S.: excuse my basic graphics but I'm not able to do a proper one so I hope this will be fine
So before actually starting the Best Of season, let's look at the 5 titles which got close to have an entry.
Featuring: Busy Signal, The Flexican & FS Green
Album: Free The Universe
Out: February 26, 2013
An explosive reworking of three reggaeton hits, "Bumaye", "Maria Lìonza" and "Carnaval de Arequipa", into house music throught the expert hands of Diplo.
Album: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Out: 5 November, 2013
Peter Jackson chose Ed Sheeran for the ending credits' track and Ed did quite a good job at it. Could've been a little shorter.
Featuring: Jennifer Lopez or May J.
Album: Wild Ones
Out: 13 March, 2013 (May J. version)
Usual Flo Rida verses with different from usual J. Lo's vocal on the chorus. On March, a version featuring May J., a Japanese singer who replaced Jennifer's vocals on the song, came out to cater more towards the Asian market. The video was shot but never came out, giving us all some "Put It In A Love Song" teas bar the expectations from it.
Album: Red
Out: March 12, 2013
The carefree third pop (and Max Martin / Shellback produced) single from Red failed to match the success of its predecessors reaching "only" #20 on the Hot 100. Taylor wrote this song about the beauty of being 22 and dedicated this to her BFFs (Dianna Agron and Selena Gomez, among others) and this is perfectly reflected into the video.
P.S.: 22 placing at #202. I see you Illuminati.
With: Q-Tip & Goonrock
Album: The Great Gatsby: Music from Baz Luhrmann's Film
Out: June 14, 2013
Inspired by Gatsby's lavish parties, this single blends LMFAO-esque beats with the '20s jazz sound, sampling the classic "It Don't Mean A Thing". Fergie looks fergalicious in the video.
