Billboard 200 Albums (April 11-18, 2012)
Quote:
Nicki Minaj scores her second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 as "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" debuts atop the list with 253,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That's a slightly better-than-expected sales figure, as industry sources had suggested last week that the album was on course for a launch somewhere in the 215,000 to 235,000 range.
It follows her debut studio set, "Pink Friday," which climbed to No. 1 on the Feb. 19, 2011 chart, just as her "Super Bass" single was taking off. "Pink Friday" bowed at No. 2 on the chart dated Dec. 11, 2010 with 375,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. (Its big debut was fueled by Christmas shopping as the album bowed during Thanksgiving week.)
"Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" is not a reissue of the original "Pink Friday" album -- despite its confusing title. It's an all-new release, led by its official first single "Starships." The track has already sailed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The album that "Roman Reloaded" replaces, Madonna's "MDNA," falls to No. 8 with 48,000 (down 86.7%) It debuted at No. 1 last week with 359,000. Its steep drop is the largest second-week percentage decline for a No. 1-debuting album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.
It surpasses the record set by Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," when it fell 84.27% in its second week on the chart dated June 18, 2011. "Born This Way" bowed the previous frame at No. 1 with 1.11 million, and then sold 174,000 in its second week at the top of the chart.
Focusing our attention on the rest of the top 10 this week, Minaj's "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" is one of four debuts in the region. Next up in terms of debuts is Rascal Flatts' "Changed," which starts in the No. 3 slot with 130,000. It's the country group's eighth top 10 on the Billboard 200 and seventh No. 1 on the Country Albums chart. Their last album, 2010's "Nothing Like This" (its Big Machine debut after a career on Lyric Street), bowed at No. 6 with 165,000.
Sandwiched between Minaj and Rascal Flatts is Adele's "21" album, which rises one spot to No. 2 with 153,000 (up 26%). Lionel Richie's "Tuskegee" falls two rungs to No. 4 with 95,000 (down 52%) and One Direction's "Up All Night" is up one to No. 5 with 92,000 (up 98%). Credit the latter's big gain to their performances on "Saturday Night Live" (April 7) and Nickelodeon's "Kids' Choice Awards" (Apr. 1), plus gift-giving sales generated the Easter holiday (Apr. 8).
At No. 6, rock band Of Monsters and Men's debut album "My Head Is An Animal" starts with 55,000. The set's single "Little Talks" rises 11-6 on the Alternative Songs airplay chart this week.
"The Hunger Games" soundtrack slips 5-7 with 50,000 (down 22%) and Shinedown's "Amaryllis" slides 4-10 with 36,000 (down 66%).
Gospel singer Marvin Sapp is the final bow in the top 10, debuting at No. 9 with "I Win" (37,000). His last studio set, 2010's "Here I Am," debuted and peaked at No. 2 with 76,000.

Because the OP originally had it under Hot 100. It was already posted by another user, they changed it to Billboard 200 after they noticed it was already posted.

Here are the five largest second-week percentage drops for No. 1-debuting albums in the SoundScan era:
1. April 21, 2012 - Madonna, "MDNA" - 86.70% (from 359,000 to 48,000 at No. 8)
2. June 18, 2011 - Lady Gaga, "Born This Way" - 84.28% (from 1.11 million to 147,000 at No. 1)
3. Dec. 3, 2011 - Mac Miller, "Blue Slide Park" - 82.54% (from 144,000 to 25,000 at No. 24)
4. Dec. 16, 2006 - Jay-Z, "Kingdom Come" - 79.42% (from 680,000 to 140,000 at No. 6)
5. Dec. 11, 2010 - Kanye West, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" - 78.14% (from 496,000 to 108,000 at No. 7)
Born this way is the only album on the list to stay at no.1 (or top 5) even after a huge drop which proves that it was normal

It doesn't prove that it was normal. It shows that she had no competition the following week after her gigantic opening, while three of the albums on that list opened during a much competitive season - Christmas.

Selling 360K is still a pretty solid competition even during that season, regardless.

Up All Night should be Gold in two-three weeks if it continues to sell at this pace.

Oh I also was. I misread everything.
I confused Gaga's second week sales with Madonna's first week ones.

That wasn't a drop from a No. 1-debut. Of course, there are many more albums to drop harder than MDNA overall.

ADELE'S RETURN TO THE TOP?
Monica, Bonnie Raitt, Prince Royce Along With iTunes Smashes Hoodie Allen and Trip Lee Hit Retail
April 11, 2012
With no new releases of note, Adele's XL/Columbia album 21 has a shot at returning to #1 next week. We'd call it a comeback, but she's never really been away, with the Grammy winner now approaching 9 million in sales since its release 14 months ago.
This would make the 24th time that 21 has topped the HITS Album Sales chart, tying the soundtracks from Purple Rain and Saturday Night Fever. Here are this week's key debuts.
Veteran RCA R&B diva Monica's new album, New Life, is looking at a debut of between 55-65k. Her last album, 2010's Still Standing, did 184k when it was released on March 23 of that year.
Bonnie Raitt's new album, Slipstream, her first indie release on her own Redwing label with distribution by RED, is on target for sales between 45-55k. It's her first album in seven years, since 2005's Souls Alike on Capitol, which did 50k back then.
Latin Bachata artist Prince Royce's Phase II, on Sergio George and Gregory Elias' boutique indie Top Stop Music label through Atlantic, is looking at first-week sales of 25-30k.
Counting Crows' Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did on Our Summer Vacation), on their indie Collective Sounds label, is headed for 24-27k.
Atlantic Records Pennsylvania rockers Halestorm's sophomore album, The Strange Case of..., looks to land in the 18-21k range.
In its first week in physical release, second overall, ATO's Alabama Shakes album, Boys & Girls, should do between 17-22k, for a nice two-week total of nearly 50k.
A pair of rappers, Jewish hip-hopper Hoodie Allen and Christian hip-hop artist Trip Lee are currently #1 and #3, respectively, on the iTunes chart, with self-released projects. We'll relay our information on those two titles as soon as our crack (-addled) retail team is able to get someone on the phone.
Meanwhile, album sales were up 4% vs. last week, up 9% vs. same week last year (which wasn't Easter) and up 1% year to date.
Track sales were up 9% vs. last week, up 26% vs. same week last year and up 8% year to date.
TEA sales were up 5% vs. last week, up 14% vs. same week last year and up 3% year to date.
With Easter two weeks later last year, at least some of the gains this week are likely to be lost by the end of the month.
