At Billboard's Women in Music, past Billboard Woman of the Year honoree Ciara was asked who inspires her. She named Missy Elliott, Janet Jackson, Sade, and Whitney Houston.
After, she was asked what she would say to aspiring artists. Her response was a humble reflection on following your own vision and being true to yourself, even when you're told no:
Quote:
My advice to young girls who aspire to do what I do is dare to be different. Don't be afraid of your creative vision. Don't be afraid of your vision as a woman, first and foremost. Stand firm on your feet when you believe in something.
I'm gonna tell you: A lot of people are going to tell you 'no.' I've heard 'no' way more times than I've heard 'yes.' And that probably has been a big part of my fuel to go harder and to keep pushing myself every day, knowing that my dream is truly in my hands and how far I can go is up to me.
Stand in your beliefs. Be confident in them. Be brave in them. When you say what you say, mean what you say. Be fearless, and also have fun.
When I was a little girl, I was such a perfectionist. When I was first starting in my career, I could sometimes overthink things. And what I learned as I got older was have fun. If you enjoy yourself while you're doing what you love, you're going to have the best time ever. So make the best of every moment.

Sounds like she's learned a lot in her career. Her drive to continue doing what she loves no matter what obstacles she encounters is truly inspiring. Humble Queen.
