13yo Iranian covering Adele, where female singers are BANNED
The video below begins like so many others on YouTube, a teenage girl laughing with friends as she prepares to show the world her version of a hit made famous by her idol.
And in her spine-tingling cover of Adele's Someone Like You, Tara, 13, showcases a powerful voice beyond her years - but this particular clip is remarkable for another reason.
Tara is from Iran, where women have been prohibited from singing in public since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
In it he insists Tara has not put herself in danger by performing and that her singing is not a political statement.
He adds that she is delighted with the positive response to her moment in the spotlight.
With more than 120,000 views since the video was posted last week, the young singer has reached an international audience and appears to have picked up more than a few fans along the way.
Tara's stripped-down rendition of the chart-topping hit - which was among those that led Adele to victory at the Brit Awards and the Grammys - is captured in a few minutes of shaky footage, but her talent is plain to see.
"After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, she is famously known for remaining in Iran until 2000 and not performing again due to the ban on female singers."
One of Iran's most famous female singers (Googoosh) immediately stopped singing following the Iranian Revolution and its restrictions on female singers.
Iranian female singers do exist today, but they tend to record their songs and music videos outside of the country. Googoosh's career was stalled for about 20 years. Then she started singing again, though I assume she did it outside of Iran.

Anyways, that's all I have to contribute. I'm half Iranian and thought I would check out this thread.
You often forget with all these conflicts and disagreements that nations have between one another that all the people within each country would be affected. I wish we could all be peaceful and civil just for that.
