Did you know that you can bring back to life a drowned fly by pouring….
If a fly stays in water for an extended period of time, it won’t drown right away, even if it appears to have done so. Surprisingly, it can be revived just with the help of everyday table salt.
How does this work? Flies don’t breathe like humans do. They have a series of tubes called spiracles. As part of the fly’s defense mechanism, these spiracles get blocked when the insect is in the water and the oxygen flow stops. Thus, the fly is left unconscious. And just like many other insects, it can survive even after it’s been left without oxygen for an extended period of time.
The fly may appear to have drowned, but with the use of table salt the water will be drawn out of its spiracles. Afterwards the fly will be able to continue its normal life. However, the salt trick won’t work if the fly is really dead and not temporarily unconscious.
