Paws up! Are you ready to dance? Last night it was announced the fifth single off Lady Gaga’s Born This Way would be fan favorite “Marry The Night.”
A release date hasn’t been set, but power piano ballad “Yoü And I“ is still in the Top 10, so it would make sense for her to wait a bit before officially putting “Marry The Night” out to radio.
Then again, when has Gaga ever taken the conventional approach?
With the typical pop tracks from Born This Way already released — “Judas” and “Edge of Glory” — as well as her title anthem, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the album holds up on radio.
Born This Way as a whole is lot less get-this-party-started than The Fame or The Fame Monster, and many tracks are more piano and electronic-driven, which doesn’t necessarily translate to Top 40.
Interestingly, “Marry The Night” was supposed to be the first third single, coming out right when the album dropped in May. But Monster obsession with sneak previews of “Edge of Glory” changed Gaga’s mind.
I’m personally not crazy about the song (I was hoping the conventional-but-fun “Hair” or melodic and eerie “Bloody Mary” would make the cut), but this ode to NYC is probably her best option if she wants to release a club track.
And it may be half in German, but I still have my monster paws crossed for “Scheiße,” her high-heeled-and-blonde ode to feminism.
Take a listen to “Marry The Night” below:
Interesting considering she's had 4 consecutive Top 10's from the album so far.
Alright, I guess I'm fine with her releasing this as a 5th single, if it's followed up IMMEDIATELY by the Club-banger-anthem-#1-hit-around-the-world Scheisse, Americano as 7th single, and then followed by the sex anthem Heavy Metal Lover just so we get a video for it.
This is what I mean when I say BTW isn't very commercial. I don't mean it's a Lungs kind of album. I mean in the context of her last 2 albums, and in the context of recent albums by major pop stars (Animal, Teenage Dream, Loud, Femme Fatale), it's thematically, lyrically and sonically not as chart-friendly.
They are acting like it is an indie album. All the tracks besides the most experimental ones (Government Hooker, Scheiße, Heavy Metal Lover,) are tailor-made for radio.
When this **** flops to tha highest heavens she's gonna give up on her life alright.
Scheibe>>>>>
& until this single is dead and gone, yawl will never hear tha end of it.
Tho tha beginning church funeral instrumental>>>>>>>>>>>>
i think it will be less successful than you and I but not a flop like Judas. She doesn't have big hits in this album, but the album is pretty steady on the charts

And they are right, a lot of the tracks wouldn't translate well, and the ones that have are the most commercially driven (but that certainly didn't stop Judas from being met with a collective "meh" in the long run). Even You & I, while not the most conventional of the bunch, is more radio friendly than something like Americano or Government Hooker.

The only commercial tracks on Femme Fatale are Till The World Ends, I Wanna Go, (Drop Dead) Beautiful, and Big Fat Bass.

Criminal might not be a tik tok or a Just Dance but it sure is radio friendly and commercial. And that's just one example (cause I don't remember the rest of the tracks in the album )
