Details
In 1986, three of the most famous artists of the eighties released albums: Janet Jackson released
Control; Madonna released
True Blue; and Cyndi Lauper released
True Colors. 25 years later, the ATRL community is going to celebrate these three albums by rating their songs!
Control (February 6, 1986) - Janet's breakthrough album. The title denotes Janet's new-found control of her music after two under-performing albums that began her career. Before the recording of the album, Janet divorced her first husband and split ways with her father, Joe Jackson, whom she fired as her manager. The album spawned six singles (seven international), five of which hit the Top 10 on the Hot 100. The album has sold over 14 million copies worldwide.
True Blue (June 30, 1986) - The album that made Madonna an international icon. Before this album, everyone just thought of Madonna as a cute girl with cute dance music. After releasing this album, she proved she could make respected pop music, too. The album was mainly inspired by Madonna's husband at the time, Sean Penn. The album had five singles, all of which reached the Top 5 on the Hot 100. It is Madge's best-selling studio album, having sold 24 million copies worldwide.
True Colors (September 27, 1986) - I know, I wanted Whitney too, but she didn't release an album in '86. But Cyndi's album is cute, so we'll give it some recognition. This was the last album Cyndi released as a relevant pop star. It didn't quite live up to the hype that she gained from her debut album, but it is still a solid pop album. Four singles (five international) were released from the album, with two of them reaching the Top 10. It has sold approximately 3 million copies worldwide.
There are 28 songs that we will be rating.
Control and
True Blue have 9 tracks, while
True Colors has 10 tracks. The albums take exactly two hours to listen to combined, so take some time out of your day to appreciate these pop goddesses. Rate the songs from 0 to 10, with 10 being a pop classic, and 0 being a Samantha Fox b-side. PM your ratings to me. I will then calculate the averages of the songs, and we will count down to Number 1!

While the three albums reach across different areas of the pop genre, they are all distinctly "eighties". Hopefully some of you will take the time to listen to some music you may have never considered listening to before. Let's enjoy the history lesson, gals.
